Cal State Northridge's Zakosek Provides Two Game-Winning Hits

Cal State Northidge junior Kelly Zakosek (Northridge, CA/Granada Hills HS) helped the Matadors win their third straight Big West series with clutch hitting, accounting for two game-winning hits against Pacific. She is the second straight Matador to earn the Big West Softball Player of the Week award.

Zakosek, a 5-6 third baseman, hit .625 (5-for-8) with one run scored and four RBI for the week. In Saturday's 2-1 game one victory, Zakosek's single up the middle with the bases loaded in the sixth inning brought in the team's second run.

After a 1-for-3 performance in a game two loss, Zakosek made more key contributions in the rubber game on Sunday. Her two-out double in the second gave the Matadors a 1-0 lead, and a fifth inning sacrifice fly plated the team's fifth run of the game in an eventual 9-4 victory. Zakosek raised her average 31 points on the weekend and extended her hitting streak to six games.

UC Santa Barbara's Davis Earns Wins in All Three Games of UC Riverside Series

UC Santa Barbara junior Jennifer Davis (Whittier, CA/California HS) worked every inning in the circle during her team's sweep of UC Riverside and earned Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week honors after figuring as the winning pitcher in all three games.

Davis posted an impressive 0.32 ERA for the week, allowing just one earned run in 22.0 innings of work. She also struck out 30 batters, including two games with double-digit performances.

In UCSB's 4-0 win in the series opener, Davis tossed a four-hit shutout and struck out 11 batters. She came back in the second game of the doubleheader and led the Gauchos to a 2-1 victory. In that game, she allowed just one hit while striking out seven more Highlanders. Davis went the distance once again in Sunday's 2-1, eight-inning win, scattering three hits and fanning 12 while walking just one. She is only 38 strikeouts from becoming the school's all-time leader and now is third at UCSB with 46 career wins.
