An impressive .529 batting average from Cody Cipriano and two complete-game shutouts by Justin Cassel and Wes Roemer earn them Big West Player and Co-Pitcher of the Week, for the week ending May 28.

Anteater Cody Cipriano closes out the 2006 regular season with his first Big West Player of the Week honor after a 9-for-17 performance at the plate against UCLA and UC Riverside. The junior infielder, who needed 60 stitches after suffering a facial injury last Sunday at Cal State Northridge, recovered this week to lead UC Irvine to a series win over UCR to clinch third place in the conference. Against the Highlanders he went 8-for-13 and drove in four runs. He also recorded a stolen base to give the program its 104th on the season, tying the UCI mark. In the four-game stint this week, the Agoura, Calif., native blasted two home runs in four games.

In Friday's 5-0 win over the Highlanders, Cipriano drove in the Anteaters' first two runs with a single. The following day he doubled in the 10th, representing the tying run in the Anteaters’ extra-inning win to claim the series. He opened up Sunday with his second home run of the week.

Teammate Justin Cassel tossed a five-hit complete-game shutout in Friday's 5-0 win over UC Riverside. The Northridge, Calif., native, faced the minimum through 7.2 innings of work before the Highlanders placed a runner on second. This marks Cassel's fourth complete game of the season and the sixth of his career. With his four strikeouts, he increased his total to 91 on the season to assume eighth place in the UC Irvine season records. This is Cassel’s second honor of the season.

Also closing out the regular season with a complete-game shutout is Cal State Fullerton's Wes Roemer, who earns his fourth Pitcher of the Week accolade this year. In Friday-night's outing against Long Beach State, the right-hander scattered six hits and stuck out six, while allowing the Titans to post a 2-0 win over the 49ers and claim their third consecutive conference title. Friday's performance was his third complete game and his second shutout of the season.
