Cal State Northridge's Duree Nearly Perfect at the Plate

Cal State Northidge sophomore Jackie Duree (Glendale, CA/Village Christian HS) earned Big West Softball Player of the Week accolades as she practically could not be kept off the basepaths in a series with UC Davis.

Duree, a 5-9 center fielder, had six hits in seven at bats for a lofty .857 average against the Aggies. She had two hits in each game and scored a run in each contest. Duree also tallied two RBI and a stolen base for the week.

In a 3-2, game one win on Friday, Duree led off the seventh with a single and scored the game-winning run on Amanda Peek's walk-off homer. She went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in the game two 6-4 victory. Her 2-for-2 performance in Saturday's season finale, a 4-0 win, raised her batting average 48 points on the weekend to a .289 mark. It was an improvement of 132 points from her batting average last season.

Cal State Fullerton's Marzan, Long Beach State's Turner Solid in the Circle

Cal State Fullerton senior Marissa Marzan (Fresno, CA/University of Arizona) and Long Beach State junior Michelle Turner (Buena Park, CA/UCLA) were selected Big West Softball Co-Pitchers of the Week after leading their teams to important wins in the regular season series finales.

Marzan went 2-0 with a save to lead the Titans to a sweep of UC Riverside. She posted a 0.93 ERA and struck out 11 in 15.0 innings of work. Her complete game three-hit performance in Saturday's 6-1 win clinched the league title outright for Cal State Fullerton on “Senior Day.” She also tossed six innings of scoreless softball in a 5-0 combined shutout in the series opener. In game two, she allowed one run in two innings of relief, stranding the bases loaded in the sixth inning to preserve a 3-2 victory.

Turner continued to carry the Long Beach State pitching staff with two more wins in a series with UC Santa Barbara. She had a 2-0 record with a 1.50 ERA, allowing 10 hits and just two walks while striking out 10 in 14.0 innings of work. Turner led the 49ers to a 4-2 win in game one, as she allowed just five hits and struck out six with no walks in a complete game effort. On Saturday, Turner went the distance once again in a 2-1 victory. She scattered five hits and struck out four. In the process, Turner tied two LBSU single-season records with her 25th win and 29th complete game.
