Cal State Northridge senior catcher Jan Moshier (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor HS) was selected Big West Softball Player of the Week after her performance at the Loyola Marymount Tournament, which included three home runs and the rewriting of the school record book for single-game RBI.
Moshier batted .500 (4-for-8) with three runs scored and eight RBI for the week, helping the Matadors defeat Penn 10-2 in six innings and Virginia 5-4 in nine innings.
She was undoubtedly the star against Penn. In the top of the first, Moshier connected for a three-run homer to stake the Matadors to an early lead and then broke the game open with a sixth inning grand slam to cap off a six-run inning. Her seven RBI in the game broke the CSUN single-game record of six held by several people. The two home runs tied a CSUN single-game record held by several people.
Against the Cavaliers, Moshier blasted her third homer of the day, and fifth of the year, to tie the game in the fourth inning. She leads the Matadors with five home runs and 16 RBI for the season. After a 1-5 start, CSUN has rebounded to win seven of its last eight games.
Long Beach State junior Michelle Turner (Buena Park, CA/UCLA) garnered Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week accolades for tossing the seventh perfect game in school history and winning both of her starts in the Long Beach Invitational.
The right-hander was the sixth player in program history to accomplish a perfect game, as Mary Letourneau threw two perfect games in 1990. Lindsey Knoff delivered the last perfect game on April 9, 2004.
In the six-inning, 8-0 win against Mercer, not only did Turner achieve the perfect game, she struck out a career-high 11 batters.
Turner also started LBSU's 15-2 win in five innings versus Syracuse. Both of the runs she allowed were unearned. She walked just two and struck out four.
