Pacific senior Ashlie D’Errico (Lancaster, CA/Lancaster HS) was selected the Big West Player of the Week after spearheading the team’s sweep of Cal Poly, knocking the Mustangs out of first place in the conference standings.

The catcher batted .700 (7-for-10) with multiple hits and at least two extra base hits in each game of the series. She guided the Tigers to an 11-4 triumph in game two of the series as she went 2-for-3 with five RBI, including a grand slam and an RBI double. D’Errico scored three times while going 3-for-4 with a double in Saturday’s opener, a 7-4 victory.

Long Beach State’s Torres, Utah State’s Higley In Command In The Circle
Long Beach State senior Marcel Torres (Diamond Bar, CA/UCLA) and Utah State junior Leslie Higley (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville HS) earned a share of Big West Pitcher of the Week accolades after buckling down against conference and non-conference opposition.

Torres collected a win and a save in Long Beach State’s series sweep of Cal State Northridge as the 49ers took over first place in the standings. The 5-7 right-hander tossed a complete game two-hitter in a 5-0 win in game two of the series, walking just one and striking out eight. Torres pitched the final 2.1 innings of Sunday’s 5-1 triumph to earn the save after yielding just one walk.

Higley posted a 3-0 record in three appearances for Utah State, helping the Aggies to a 4-1 record for the week. She allowed just one earned run in 19.0 innings of work for a 0.37 ERA. Higley, a 5-6 right-hander, helped USU snap a seven-game losing streak to in-state rival Utah after allowing just one run and striking out five in a complete game effort. She also earned the win against UC Riverside twice, including a shutout in an 11-0 victory. She also fanned seven Highlanders and gave up an unearned run in a 4-1 win on Sunday.
