Cal State Fullerton sophomore Bobby Brown (Los Angeles, CA/Westchester HS) led the Titans to a pair of crucial conference wins, including hitting a late game go-ahead shot in one of them, to garner Big West Player of the Week honors for the second time this season and third time in his career.
The 6-1 guard helped the Titans clinch their first winning season in 12 years as he averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in wins over Idaho (84-74) and Utah State (64-60). He knocked down 50 percent (14-of-28) of his shots overall and hit 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from the three-point line for the week.
Against Idaho, Brown contributed 19 points, three rebounds and six assists. He had a couple of key assists after the Vandals had trimmed their deficit to six points with 2:44 to play. Brown found Ralphy Holmes on an inbounds play for a basket and then dished to Jermaine Harper for a fastbreak three-pointer to increase the lead back to 11 with 1:59 remaining.
Brown’s performance against Utah State helped CSF snap a seven-game losing streak to the Aggies. He scored 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting to go along with five rebounds and four assists in 36 minutes of play. Brown was knocked down while converting a driving bank shot with 1:31 to play, and his ensuing free throw gave the Titans the lead for good at 59-57 with 1:31 remaining. He also hit the first of two free throws for a 63-60 lead with 15 seconds left.
