Freshman Kemie Nkele pumped in a career-high 29 points for UC Riverside.
UC Riverside's Kemie Nkele earned her second Big
West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Honors
in three weeks after recording her third double-double
of the year, 19th of her career, against Saint Mary's for
the week ending Dec. 4. Nkele's 19 points and 12
rebounds led the Highlanders to their first win over the
Gaels (71-61) since 1984.
In the matchup
against Northern Arizona, the San Diego, Calif., native
recorded 16 points while grabbing six rebounds.
Nkele, a 6-1 sophomore, led the team with a .500
shooting percentage against the Lumberjacks.
During Thursday's contest against Saint Mary's, Nkele
blocked the 100th shot of her career to become the
second UCR player to reach the century mark in that
category. She is also the first Highlander to ever be
named player of the week three times in her career and
is the second to receive it twice in one season (Amy
Houchens, 2001-02).
