UC Santa Barbara goalkeeper Dan Kennedy (Yorba Linda, CA/El Dorado HS) earned Big West Men’s Soccer Player of the Week honors after posting his fifth consecutive shutout in a 1-0, double overtime victory over then-No. 1 ranked Indiana at the UNM adidas/Crescent Solutions Invitational on Saturday. Kennedy also received National Player of the Week accolades from College Soccer News for his efforts.
The senior made a season-high seven saves against the Hoosiers to extend the school’s record for most consecutive shutouts to start a season. On Sunday, Kennedy helped the Gauchos to a 4-1 win over Columbia with four saves. His consecutive scoreless minutes streak ended at 519:02 when he allowed a second half goal to the Lions.
For the week, Kennedy posted a 0.46 goals against average with 11 saves.
With 26 career complete game shutouts and 6,066 career minutes played, Kennedy has an opportunity this week to break UCSB records of 27 shutouts and 6,181 minutes. The Gauchos host UC Riverside in a Big West match on Thursday and UNLV on Sunday.
