Established in 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month sought to put a spotlight on the importance of mental health and wellness. Each year mental health organizations and advocates continue to fight against the stigma associated with mental health, provide support for those with mental illness and the counselors supporting them, as well as advocate for policies on behalf of those with mental illness and their loved ones.
While one in five people will experience a mental illness during their lifetime, everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their mental health. In the month of May each year, everyone is encouraged to join together to highlight the significance of mental health awareness.
The Big West SAAC and Undivided groups are proud to support and promote Mental Health Awareness Month.
