Offensive Player of the Week  Suelen Lima, Cal State Bakersfield | Junior • Outside Hitter • Sao Bento do Sul, Brazil

• Leading Cal State Bakersfield to a 2-2 record in a busy week, Suelen Lima has claimed Big West Offensive Player of the Week, a first career nod. The award is the first for a Roadrunner since the 2024 season and just the second offensive weekly award since joining the league in 20220.  

• Lima, a junior from Sao Bento do Sul, Brazil, was the major offensive catalyst during Bakersfield's busy week, which featured four matches across five days. The outside hitter averaged 3.68 kills per set on a .255 hitting clip with double-digit kills in each match.  

• Lima set a new career high with 28 kills in Friday's 3-2 win at Eastern Washington, which rates as the most kills in a match for a Big West player during the non-conference segment   

• Lima tallied double-doubles three times with 19 kills and 14 digs in a win at Saint Mary’s, 28 at 12 against EWU and 12 kills at 14 digs against Nevada, all five-set affairs.

Defensive Player of the Week  Whitney Wallace, UC Irvine | Junior • Libero • West Jordan, Utah

• UC Irvine’s Whitney Wallace held down the back row in a split for the Anteaters to scoop up Big West Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 21. This marks a first career weekly award for the junior.  

• Wallace paced the defensive efforts with a team-best 5.38 digs per set over the weekend at The Rebel Challenge, opening with 18 digs and four assists in a 3-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana.  

• The Los Gatos, Calif., native came back the next day to record a match-high 25 digs in another four-setter at tournament host UNLV. It was a fourth 20-dig effort of the season, and third in the last four outings. Wallace also committed just one reception error on 62 attempts (.984). 

• Wallace currently ranks third in The Big West in digs average heading into league play at 3.83 per set.

Setter of the Week  Makenna Wiepert, Sacramento State | Junior • Setter • Sherwood, Ore.

• Makenna Wiepert directed Sacramento State to a weekend split at the Battle of NorCal to claim a first career Big West Setter of the Week award for Sept. 21. 

• The junior from Sherwood, Ore., averaged 10.44 assists and 3.22 digs per set, with eight kills on .615 hitting and an errorless weekend to go along with three blocks. 

• In Friday’s four-set victory against the host San Jose State Spartans, Wiepert finished with 46 assists, six digs and a pair of denials including one solo stuff at the net. 

• Saturday as Sacramento State took California to the brink before falling in five, Wiepert posted career highs in assists (48), digs (23) and kills (6). The setter also hit .667 in the match with no errors on nine swings. 

• Wiepert heads into Big West play averaging 8.65 assists per set with 17 total aces, both good for second in the conference.

Rookie of the Week  Leylah Duran, Cal State Bakersfield | Freshman • Middle Blocker • Peoria, Ariz.

• Cal State Bakersfield first-year player Leylah Duran helped the Roadrunners to a 2-2 week to close out non-conference play and earn Big West Rookie of the Week for Sept. 21.  

• Duran, a true freshman from Peoria, Ariz., averaged 1.50 kills on a .318 hitting percentage and 2.06 points per set. Duran totaled 27 kills, 11 blocks, 10 digs and three aces as the `Runners took two road wins at Saint Mary’s and Eastern Washington as the team played four matches in five days. 

• Duran was consistent across the week, tallying at least kills in all four matches. The marquee game was Saturday's come-from-behind road win against EWU, with a season-high eight kills on .412 hitting (8-1-17) to go with four blocks and three digs.
