Record Week Propels Hunter Hernandez of UC Irvine to Season's Final Big West Player of the Week Award

  • 8136Hunter Hernandez had a record-breaking week for The Big West co-regular season champion Anteaters to claim a fifth Big West Player of the Week award in 2025-26. 

  • On Saturday at Cal Poly, Hernandez tied UC Irvine’s single-game scoring record with 41 points on 50 percent shooting from the field and a 16-for-18 night from the line. It was the third 40-point game in UCI program history and the first since 2010.   

  • Two days later, the senior from San Jose, Calif., dropped a game-high 24 points with a perfect 10-for-10 outing from the charity strip in the Anteaters’ title-clinching win at UC Davis.  

  • By the end of the week, Hernandez increased the single-season scoring total to a school-record 603 points, while also breaking UC Irvine’s all-time record with 385 career free throws made.  

  • In the two wins, Hernandez averaged 32.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting .459 from the field, .455 from beyond the arc and .929 (26-for-28) at the free throw line.
