Leading UC Santa Barbara to a win in their first conference match of the season, George Bruening has been named Big West Offensive Player of the Week. This is a second career offensive honor for the redshirt sophomore, also earning the award back on Jan. 12.

The outside hitter from Newport Beach, Calif., put down a match high 19 kills during UCSB's five-set victory against UC San Diego. Bruening hit .324 in Friday’s match and also added three blocks and an ace.

Offensively, the junior from Austin, Texas, totaled 12 kills, hitting .706 while averaging 1.50 kills per set in the series, providing timely strikes for the Rainbow Warriors. Rosenthal also averaged 2.75 digs per set and 0.88 blocks per set while serving five aces against the Waves.

In Friday’s rematch and UH win, Rosenthal distributed a season-high 56 assists along with four aces, nine digs, and three blocks. The match was capped with the Rosenthal striking for the final two kills of the night to win a marathon 36-34 fourth set.
