Sakanoko, Selcho, Rosenthal and Gajek Named The Big West Men's Volleyball Weekly Award Winners

Offensive Player of the Week 
Louis Sakanoko, Hawai'i | Junior • Outside Hitter • Paris, France
  • Hawai’i outside hitter Louis Sakanoko powered the Rainbow Warriors to a pair of wins over No. 6 BYU to earn Big West Offensive Player of the Week. This marks Sakanoko’s second career offensive award, and sixth overall weekly nod.  

  • The junior compiled 30 kills (4.29 avg.) while hitting .436 along with 11 digs (1.57 avg.), three aces (0.43 avg.) and three blocks (0.43 avg.).  

  • Sakanoko posted 15 kills in each of the two matches, highlighted by .440 hitting with five digs and two blocks in the straight-set win to cap the weekend. The Paris, France, native also served up three aces in the opener.   

  • Sakanoko currently rates in the top five in The Big West with average of .389 hitting and 3.47 kills per set on the year. The hitting percentage figure is good for 14th nationally.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Peter Selcho, UC San Diego | Redshirt Senior • Middle Blocker • Fountain Valley, Calif.
  • 8138A force at the net in a pair of UC San Diego matches, Peter Selcho has been named Big West Defensive Player of the Week. The award is a second career honor, last winning back on Jan. 8, 2024. 

  • The redshirt senior middle blocker collected 17 total blocks in a home-and-home split against Vanguard, finishing with 1.89 blocks per set.  

  • Highlighting the week, Selcho finished with nine blocks and eight kills on .385 hitting in Friday’s four-set home victory. In the series opener Selcho also landed four service aces.  

  • The product of Fountain Valley, Calif., is currently third in The Big West and 21st nationally with a 1.00 blocks per set average on the season.

Setter of the Week 
Tread Rosenthal, Hawai'i | Junior • Setter • Austin, Texas
  • 8036Guiding the Hawai’i team to a pair of victories over BYU, junior Tread Rosenthal has claimed a season’s fifth Big West Setter of the Week honor. The distinction is a 10th career setter honor and 17th overall weekly award.  

  • Rosenthal averaged 11.14 assists per set, directing the offense to a combined .455 hitting percentage for the series. Additionally, the Austin, Texas native added seven kills (1.00 avg.), four aces (0.57 avg.), 11 digs (1.57 avg.), and four blocks (0.57 avg.) against the Cougars.  

  •  Wednesday, Rosenthal assisted on 46 scoring plays with three kills, six digs and three blocks in the four-setter.  

  • In Friday’s sweeping rematch, he followed with 32 assists, three kills, four aces, five digs and a block highlighting effective overall play. Rosenthal’s four aces tied a career high. 

  • Rosenthal leads The Big West and ranks third in the country with an 11.07 assists per set average on the season.

Freshman of the Week 
Wojciech Gajek, Long Beach State | Freshman • Opposite Hitter • Katowice, Poland
  • 8042Long Beach State true freshman Wojciech Gajek powered Long Beach State to a 2-0 week to nab a first career honor as Big West Freshman of the Week.  

  • Gajek paced the offense with 24 kills, averaging 3.43 kills per set, while hitting .486 in a pair of wins against CUI.  

  • In the 3-1 road win, Gajek delivered 12 kills and erupted for eight service aces, tied for the most aces in a four-set match this season.  

  • In Saturday’s home sweep the opposite hitter from Katowice, Poland registered another 12 kills with an impressive .786 hitting (12-1-14), the highest single-match attack percentage by a Beach player this season with a minimum of 12 kills.
