HOUSTON, Texas — Landing atop the podium in all three events on the first day of the 2026 Big West Men's Swimming & Diving Championship from CRWC Natatorium, Hawai'i leads the team competition with 125 points.
Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo defended the event title in 1-meter diving finishing with a score of 360.70 to blast to a new benchmark in the six-dive era. UH teammate
Olly Wignall captured third with GCU's
Omar Elsayed securing second place with a score of 358.65, just over two points behind the champion.
In the men’s 200-yard medley relay, UH took first place with a time of 1:24.48, as
Karol Ostrowski,
Tom Caps,
Jack Simon and
Finn Brophy earned 40 team points. First-year affiliate GCU claimed second with a time of 1:25.16, while UC San Diego secured third in 1:25.64.
In the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay, UH dominated with a finish of 6:23.63, nearly five second faster than their closest competors and 2025 event champions from UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos took second with a time of 6:28.35 and UC San Diego completed the podium in third place after touching in 6:30.21.
Tomorrow's action fom Houston begins at 10 a.m. CT/8 a.m. PT with the Championship session taking center stage starting at 6 p.m. CT/4 p.m. PT. Five more men's event champions will be crowned with three freestyle events, the 200 individual medley and the 3-meter diving competition slated for Thursday.
