Road Efforts For McNees, Wallace, Haury and Boice Result in Big West Women's Volleyball Weekly Honors

Offensive Player of the Week 
Ireland McNees, UC San Diego | Senior • Outside Hitter • Riverton, Utah
  • 8138Ireland McNees powered the UC San Diego attack to a set of road wins in Riverside to claim Big West Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 5. This marks a first career weekly honor for McNees. 

  • The senior outside hitter 4.56 kills per set on .405 hitting pick and 1.33 digs per set along with four blocks and a pair of aces to tally 5.00 points per set for the Tritons.  

  • On Thursday at California Baptist, McNees recorded 19 kills on 35 swings without an error to hit .543 in the four-set victory. 

  • The product of Riverton, Utah, registered a career-best 22 kills and 25.5 points to lead the Tritons their first five-set victory of the season against the Highlanders on Saturday. 

  • McNees is currently in seventh in The Big West in kills average at 3.34 and fourth in total points at 234.0.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Whitney Wallace, UC Irvine | Junior • Libero • Los Gatos, Calif.
  • UC Irvine libero Whitney Wallace anchored the back row for the Anteaters in a pair of victorious road efforts to earn Big West Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.  

  • Wallace averaged 4.56 digs per set in a 2-0 week in Riverside. The junior led all players in both outings, finishing with 17 digs in a 3-1 win at UC Riverside and 24 in a five-set victory at California Baptist.  

  • The Los Gatos, Calif., native has recorded 10 or more digs in 12 consecutive matches and notched a sixth 20+ dig effort of the season against the Lancers.  

  • On the year, Wallace ranks second in The Big West with a 4.14 digs average as the Anteaters scoop up a league-best 14.75 team digs per set.

Setter of the Week 
Alexis Haury, Cal Poly | Junior • Setter • Silverton, Ore.
  • 38799Directing Cal Poly to a pair of road sweeps, Alexis Haury has been named Big West Setter of the Week for Oct. 5. This is a second career distinction for the transfer from Washington who opened the season with honors on Aug. 31 

  • Haury helped on 33 scoring plays with six digs, two blocks and two aces in Thursday’s win at Sacramento State.  

  • In Saturday’s road trip to Utah Valley, the junior from Silverton, Ore., finished with 32 assists and nine digs along with four kills on four swings in the three-setter. 

  • Haury leads The Big West with 9.98 assists per set and is fourth in the league with 0.41 aces per set, serving up 21 total strikes thus far on the season. As a team, Cal Poly is hitting .290 on the year, which rates 10th in NCAA Division I.

Rookie of the Week 
Taylor Boice, UC Irvine | Freshman • Middle Blocker • Redondo Beach, Calif.
  • 8136After helping UC Irvine to a 2-0 weekend, first-year player Taylor Boice claimed Big West Rookie of the Week for Oct. 5, a first career weekly conference award. 

  • The middle blocker from Redondo Beach, Calif., averaged 2.11 kills with seven total blocks to average 2.61 points per set for the Anteaters.  

  • The highlight came on Friday as Boice led all players with 12 kills on .381 hitting with four blocks and two digs in a 3-1 victory at UC Riverside.  

  • Saturday saw the freshman add seven kills and three blocks in a five-set win against California Baptist.  

  • Boice has accumulated 55 total blocks on the season, good for fifth in The Big West.
