Cal Poly Sweeps Athlete of the Week Awards with Gurusamy and Gaffney

Dheeraj Gurusamy, Cal Poly | Redshirt Sophomore • Livermore, Calif.

  • 8038Cal Poly's Dheeraj Gurusamy was the top collegiate finisher at the Gaucho Twilight Invitational to claim The Big West Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week award. It is Gurusamy's first career weekly honor.

  • The redshirt sophomore came in second overall in the 8K at Mission Club, with a personal-best time of 24:22.6, just .01 seconds shy of the winner. 

  • The Mustangs won the team competition out of with 25 points. 

    Also Nominated: Zachary Parker (UC Santa Barbara). 

Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Kelli Gaffney, Cal Poly | Junior • Temecula, Calif.

  • 8038Cal Poly’s Kelli Gaffney won the individual title at the Gaucho Twilight Invitational to earn The Big West Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor. It is Gaffney's first career weekly honor. 

  • Thejunior completed the 6K race at Mission Club in 21:14.7, six seconds ahead of the next closest competitor. 

  • As a team, the Mustangs finished first with 17 points.
