Two Big West men's volleyball standouts
, Long Beach State's
Skyler Varga and
'Eleu Choy of Hawai'i, were named to the 2024-25 Academic All-America® Division I Men’s At-Large Third Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), on Wednesday.
Varga and Choy are two of 14 members of the third team and 44 total Division I Academic All-Americans. There were a total of three men's volleyball players honored as Academic All-Americans.
Varga had a 3.54 GPA in Kinesiology - Sport Psychology Leadership and was the kills leader for the Beach with 270 on the year, averaging 2.73 per set while making 33 aces. The junior was an AVCA All-America First Team and All-Big West First Team selection, helping Long Beach State to a Big West regular-season title and National Championship. Varga was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team after helping guide the Beach to the national title.
Choy sported a 3.80 GPA in civil engineering and was the starting libero for the Rainbow Warriors. The senior averaged 1.69 digs and 0.31 assists per set en rout to being named an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention and All-Big West Honorable Mention. Hawai'i finished the season with a 27-6 overall record, second-place in The Big West regular-season with a 7-3 league record and won the OUTRIGGER Big West Championship, presented by the Hawaiian Islands. The Rainbow Warriors were NCAA Championship semifinalists.
Student-athletes must be in at least their second season, hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 and be an important contributor athletically to be eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-America recognition.
