No. 4 Seed Hawai'i Staves Off Elimination Yet Again on Day Three of 2025 Big West Baseball Championship

FULLERTON, Calif. -- No. 4 seed Hawai'i defeated No. 3 seed Cal State Fullerton with a decisive 16-4 victory in an elimination game on day three of the 2025 Big West Baseball Championship, presented by Ontario International Airport, Friday night at Goodwin Field. 

The Rainbow Warriors improve to 35-20 on the year and will take on No. 2 seed Cal Poly in yet another elimination game on Saturday, May 24 at 3 p.m. PT. The Titans end their season with a 29-27 overall record. 

Cal State Fullerton took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI single from Matthew Bardowell

Hawai'i would respond with three runs in the next half inning as Jared Quandt, Hunter Faildo and Matthew Miura drove in one run each. 

Miura added one more RBI in the fourth and Kamana Nahaku plated a run in the fifth to give the Rainbow Warriors a 5-1 advantage. 

Cal State Fullerton got struck back in the sixth as a Max Ortega was able to bring in one run to cut the gap to three. 

Hawai'i blew the game open in the seventh with five runs thanks to a Jordan Donahue two-run homer, a solo shot from Kamana Nahaku and a 2-RBI double from Shunsuke Sakaino

Carter Johnstone brought two runners home in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 10-4 game. 

Hawai'i scored six runs in the top of the ninth for added insurance and account for the final score of the game. 

The Rainbow Warriors had six players with a multi-hit game with Miura, Elijah Ickes, Quandt, Nahaku and Faildo. Starter Sebastian Gonzalez gave up one run in 4.0 innings. Cory Ronan got the win, giving up one run in 1.1 innings to improve to 4-2 on the season. Closer Isaiah Magdaleno tossed the final 3.2 innings and earned a ninth save on the season. 

Cal State Fullerton was led by Maddox Latta (2-for-4, 2 R), Johnstone (2-for-5, 2 RBI) and Bardowell (2-for-5, 1 R, 1 RBI).
