2025 All-Big West Women’s Tennis Team and Award Winners Revealed

2025 All-Big West Women’s Tennis Team and Awards
The Big West is proud to reveal its 2025 All-Big West Women’s Tennis Team and Awards, four days after the conclusion of the 2025 Big West Women’s Tennis Championship. The teams and awards were voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.

UC Santa Barbara senior Amelia Honer is The Big West Player of the Year for the third consecutive year. It is the ninth time overall, fifth in a row, that a Gaucho has won the league’s top individual honor. Honer went 16-2 overall, all at the No. 1 position, including a 5-1 mark during conference play. The Newtown, Pa. product not only is an All-Big West First Team selection as a singles player, but also as a doubles pair with Ali Benedetto, going 3-0 overall and 1-0 in Big West action, all at the No. 1 spot.

Long Beach State’s Cecilia Costa is The Big West Freshman of the Year. The Beach rookie went 16-6 overall, going 1-2 at No. 1 and 15-4 at No. 2, and 7-2 in league matches. In doubles, Costa, with partner Paulina Franco Martinessi, had a 3-0 overall record, 2-0 in league play, all at the top of the lineup.

UC Santa Barbara head coach Simon Thibodeau is The Big West Coach of the Year. It is the third time that Thibodeau has won the conference’s top coaching accolade. The 13th-year head coach guided the Gauchos to a 16-8 overall record and going a perfect 9-0 in conference play to win the regular-season crown. UC Santa Barbara won the 2025 Big West Women’s Tennis Championship as the top seed, defeating No. 4 seed Long Beach State 4-0 in the semifinals and topping No. 2 seed Cal Poly 4-2 for the title. The Gauchos are ranked No. 32 in the latest ITA rankings released on May 1. UC Santa Barbara will represent The Big West in the upcoming NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship with a matchup against Rice at Texas A&M on Friday, May 2 at 9 a.m. PT.

Singles players on the All-Big West First Team are Honer, Long Beach State’s Cecilia Costa (16-6, 7-2 BW) and Diana De Simone (9-9, 4-5 BW), Cal Poly’s Peyton Dunkle (15-3, 6-1 BW), UC San Diego’s Julia Haynes (16-3, 7-2 BW), Cal State Fullerton’s Sein Myoung (15-4, 9-0 BW) and Ana Vilcek (11-3, 7-1 BW) of Hawai‘i.

The doubles pairs on the All-Big West First Team are UC Santa Barbara’s Benedetto and Honer, Long Beach State’s Costa and Franco Martinessi, Cal Poly’s Kennedy Buntrock and Romane Mosse (13-5, 4-2 BW), and UC Davis’ Mika Ikemori and Daisy Maunupau (10-5, 4-4 BW).

All-Big West Second Team singles players include Buntrock, Ikemori, UC Irvine’s Kayla Meraz (9-7, 2-5 BW), UC Santa Barbara’s Marie Weissheim (11-9, 5-1 BW), UC Riverside’s Ramey Yu (10-7, 3-5 BW) and Cal State Fullerton’s Seha Yu (11-6, 6-3 BW).

Doubles pairs on the All-Big West Second Team are Cal Poly’s Dunkle and Amy Leather (10-5, 5-2 BW), UC Irvine's Carolyna Fowler and Yen Nhi Huynh (13-4, 5-3 BW), UC San Diego's Haynes and Kelly Leung (3-2, 3-0 BW), and Sheena Masuda and Peppi Ramstedt (9-6, 5-3 BW) of Hawai'i.
