UC Santa Barbara's Amelia Honer Captures 16th Career Player of the Week Award

  • UC Santa Barbara senior Amelia Honer went undefeated in doubles and singles to earn The Big West Women's Tennis Player of the Week. It is Honer's 16th career weekly honor, the most in the history of the conference. The Newtown, Pa. native has now won the award four times this year, four times last season, six times in 2023 and twice in 2022. 
  • On Friday at CSUN, Honer and partner Lucy Lu defeated Angela Ho and Victoria Santibanez Luna 6-1 at the top slot that helped the Gauchos win the doubles point. The senior took care of Yuliia Zhytelna at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. UCSB won the team competition, 5-2. 
     
  • On Sunday against UC San Diego, Honer took down 73rd-ranked Julia Haynes in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. The Gauchos defeated the Tritons in the team battle, 7-0. 
     
  • UC Santa Barbara is 10-8 overall this season, 6-0 in conference play. Honer is currently 13-2 in singles on the year, all in the No. 1 position, and ranked 11th in the latest ITA National Rankings.
