STANFORD, Calif. -- CSUN was defeated by No. 2 seed Stanford by a final score of 87-70 at Maples Pavilion in the first round of the 2025 National Invitational Tournament (NIT), Tuesday night.
CSUN ends its season with a 22-11 record, the most wins for the Matador program since 2001. Stanford (21-13) advances to the second round to take on the winner of No. 3 seed Saint Joseph's and UAB.
The game saw the Cardinal outshoot the Matadors, converting 28-of-60 from the floor, 12-of-31 on 3-point attempts and 19-of-23 at the charity stripe. CSUN kept pace, going 28-of-61 from the field, but only made four 3-pointers and 10 free throws.
The Cardinal led the Matadors 46-29 at the end of 20 minutes, powered by eight made 3-pointers. In the second half, the Matadors did not allow the Cardinal to pull away, matching them point for point with both teams scoring 41. However, CSUN could only manage to get within 13 points of Stanford in the second half.
The Matadors feature several standout performers. Keonte Jones led the team with 18 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the field, and contributing five rebounds and three assists. Scotty Washington also had a strong performance, scoring 17 points, including two 3-pointers, and matched Jones with five rebounds. Grady Lewis provided solid support with 12 points, making 5-of-8 field goals, and leading the team with seven rebounds.
