The Big West Swimming & Diving Notebook: Conference Championships Up Next in Houston

2024-25 Swimming & Diving | Men's Schedule | Women's Schedule | Championship Central

-Teams around the league are ready to enter the postseason, beginning with the 2025 Big West Swimming & Diving Championships. The meet will take place Wednesday, Feb.12 - Saturday, Feb. 15, hosted by the University of Houston at CRWC Natatorium in Houston, Texas.  

This will be the first time since 2010 The Big West has held the Swimming & Diving Championships after UC Davis took home the title on both men's and women's side.   

Hawai'i swept the men's and women's swimming and diving championships with UC Santa Barbara as runners-up a year ago in competition in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), where all six Big West member-institutions previously competed. Big West student-athletes and coaches claimed nine of the 10 MPSF individual awards in 2024.

Big West Weekly Recognition
Kyle Brill claims The Big West's Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete following a stellar performance that set a program record at the UC Santa Barbara Invite this past weekend. Brill becomes the first Gaucho to boast a weekly award this year on the men's side. The senior celebrated a pair of first place finishes against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the 200 Breast (1:45:37) and re-wrote the UCSB record book with a 3:45.46 finish in the 400 IM. Brill brought home a second-place effort in the 200 IM (1:45.37) and clocked a time of 23.95 relay in the 50 Breast to end the highlight for the Gauchos.  

- Samantha Banos showed out for the Gauchos at the UC Santa Barbara invite to claim The Big West Women's Swimming & Diving award for the third time this season (Dec. 24, 2024 | Jan. 21). A trio of first place finishes were taken by Banos in the 500 Free (4:54.68), 100 Fly (54.53), 200 Fly (1:58.06) in competition against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Westmont. Banos also posted times of 1:50.85 and 25.04 Relay in the 50 Fly. UCSB has had two other representatives earn a weekly accolade this season with Hazel Derr, Ashley Ray and Miranda Stevenson.
