UC Irvine’s Hunter Hernandez Picks Up Third Consecutive Player of the Week Honor

  • 8136UC Irvine guard Hunter Hernandez has earned The Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week award for the third consecutive time. It is the fifth career weekly honor for the senior, having won the accolade twice during the 2022-23 season and thrice this year. 

  • Hernandez averaged 24.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in two wins on the week. 

  • The 5-foot-9 guard recorded 13 points, seven boards, and a career-high tying five assists as UC Irvine prevailed on the road at New Mexico State, 83-66, Tuesday night. 

  • On Thursday, the San Jose, Calif. product scored a career-high 36 points, with six rebounds, in a 93-72 road victory at UTEP. The 36 points scored by Hernandez were the most by any Big West player this season, shooting an efficient 13-of-18 from the field, 4-for-5 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line. 

  • The Anteaters are currently riding a 10-game winning streak with an overall record of 11-2. Hernandez averages a team-high and conference second-best 17.9 points per game. With 68 total swishes, Hernandez is shooting 89.5 percent from the free throw line to rate 23rd nationally.
