The Big West Reveals 2025 Men's Soccer All-Conference Team and Awards

The Big West is proud to announce its 2025 all-conference teams and major award winners ahead of Wednesday’s start to the 2025 Men’s Soccer Championship, as voted by the league’s 10 head coaches. Student-athletes from all 10 institutions received recognition across the list. 

Big West regular-season tri-champions Cal Poly, UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara earned four of the six major awards. Gaucho sophomore Calle Mollerberg earned Defensive Player of the Year honors and forward Steinar Bjornsson was named Freshman of the Year. Cal Poly junior Nicky McCune claimed the Goalkeeper of the Year award for the second straight time. The top coaching honor went to Anteaters’ Yossi Raz. Cal State Fullerton senior Mario Carlos and sophomore Jose de la Torre take home Offensive Player of the Year and Midfielder of the Year accolades, respectively. 

McCune is now a two-time Goalkeeper of the Year after another phenomenal season of work guarding the cage. The Mustang Goaltender amassed 51 saves with a 0.78 goals-against average and with eight solo shutouts. 

Mollerberg played and started all 18 games and anchored the UCSB back line that produced a 0.89 goals-against average in overall games, a minuscule 0.33 in conference play. The Gaucho defender put in a full 90 minute shift in 13 of 18 matches. 

de la Torre compiled four goals and league-leading seven assists for Cal State Fullerton. In conference play, the Titan midfielder provided three goals and four assists. 
Carlos led The Big West in overall goals with seven, five of them coming in league play. 

Bjornsson provided one goal and three assists for the Big West regular season tri-champion Gauchos. 

Raz helmed the Anteaters to a regular-season tri-championship with a 4-0-5 league record. It is the third time that the ninth-year UC Irvine head coach has won the conference’s top coaching award. 

UC Santa Barbara sophomore forward Zac Siebenlist and junior midfielder Kaden Standish join Mollerberg on the First Team. Siebenlist produced four goals and three assists, while Standish compiled two goals and three assists. Gaucho senior defender Eddie Villeda (1A) and freshman goalkeeper Owen Beninga (0.21 GAA) were Second Team honorees. 

Converging with McCune on the First Team are Cal Poly junior defender Parker Owens (1G) and senior defender Bakuena Ramakatsa (1G, 2A). Senior defender Nico Baltazar (2G), sophomore forward Quinn Mahoney (4G, 1A) and junior midfielder Sean McTague (4G, 1A) were placed on the Second Team. 

UC Irvine got three First Team awardees in senior forward Misael Gonzalez Lopez (7G, 1A), senior midfielder Agaton Pourshahidi (4G, 1A) and junior defender Brady Treinen (2A), and one on the Second Team in senior defender Nolan DiCenzo (1G). 

Cal State Fullerton defender Nick Releford earned Second Team honors with one goal and playing a full 90 minutes five times.  

UC Davis seniors Cason Goodman and Luke Goodman were picked as First Team selections. Cason Goodman compiled five goals and four assists, while Luke Goodman played a full 90-minute shift in 16 of 17 matches. Senior forward Zack Lillington earned Second Team placement with three goals and three assists. 

With two goals and one assist on the season UC San Diego junior defender Evan Wellerstein earned Second Team distinction. 

CSUN placed two players on the All-Big West teams with senior defender Siddiq Lezar (0.72 GAA) on the First Team and junior midfielder Zack Harris (1G, 1A) on the second Team.  

With two goals and three assists, Sacramento State junior forward Donovan Sessoms was selected as a Second Team member.  

The All-Big West Honorable Mention consists of Filip Arras (Cal State Bakersfield), Buba Fofanah (UC Santa Barbara), Luka Geishauser (Cal State Bakersfield), Ulises Grado (Cal State Fullerton), Wes Hastings (UC Riverside), Joe O’Shaughnessy (UC Irvine), Isaac Powell (UC Irvine), Matthew Sacristan (Cal State Fullerton), Fernando Valenzuela (Cal State Fullerton) and Drew Kamienski (UC Santa Barbara). 

The All-Freshman Team features Beninga, Bjornsson, Nami Banks (UC Davis), Jacob Bernauer (Cal State Bakersfield), Owen Beninga (UC Santa Barbara), Steinar Bjornsson (UC Santa Barbara), Tanner Casey(Cal Poly), Daniel Garcia (CSUN), Adam Dunbar (UC San Diego), Gustavo Gonzalez (UC Irvine), Allbranly Gue (Sacramento State), Eric Martinez (UC Riverside) and Michael Vick (Cal Poly). 

The Big West Men’s Soccer Championship begins Wednesday, Nov. 5, with a pair of first-round tilts at higher-seeded camps sites. Fifth-seeded UC Davis plays at No. 4 Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m. and sixth-seeded UC San Diego is at No. 3 Cal Poly, also at 7 p.m.

No. 2 seed UC Irvine hosts the winner of the Cal Poly-UC San Diego matchup on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. and UC Santa Barbara welcomes the victors of the Cal State Fullerton-UC Davis game on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. The championship match will be held at the remaining highest seed on Friday, Nov. 14.
