Hawai'i Duo Roure and Rosenthal Joined by UCSD's Cherfan for Season's First Big West Men's Volleyball Weekly Awards

Offensive Player of the Week 
Adrien Roure, Hawai'i | Freshman • Outside Hitter • Lyon, France
  • 8036Hawai’i freshman Adrien Roure enjoyed a banner collegiate-opening weekend to claim Big West Offensive Player of the Week for Jan. 6. 

  • The outside hitter averaged 4.29 kills and 4.71 points per set in a pair of wins against 20th-ranked McKendree, hitting .404. 

  • Roure finished with a match-high 17 kills with five digs and two aces in Friday’s four-set win. Sunday, the outside hitter added 13 kills on .478 hitting with a pair of aces in the sweep of McKendree. 

  • In exhibition action against British Columbia, Roure tallied eight kills on 13 errorless attempts with four digs, an ace and a block.  

  • The native of Lyon, France, did not commit a reception error in 37 attempts against McKendree, and 43 total including the match against British Columbia.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Anthony Cherfan, UC San Diego | Senior • Opposite Hitter • Los Angeles
  • 8138UC San Diego senior Anthony Cherfan secured the season’s first Big West Defensive Player of the Week honor after an all-tournament team performance at the North American Challenge. This marks Cherfan’s first career defensive honor, winning the season’s final offensive award in 2024.  

  • The Tritons swept through all three Canadian opponents at the Challenge, with Cherfan providing  solid offensive and defensive performances. 

  • Friday against Calgary, Cherfan finished with a match-high 10 kills on .533 hitting with four blocks, four digs, two aces and two assists.  

  • In Saturday’s sweep of Trinity Western to close out the event, the opposite hitter from Los Angeles tied for a match-best eight kills to go along with a team-high five blocks and three aces. 

  • The Tritons begin their season in earnest on Tuesday, hosting McKendree at LionTree Arena.

Setter of the Week 
Tread Rosenthal, Hawai'i | Sophomore • Setter • Austin, Texas
  • Hawai’i sophomore Tread Rosenthal earned the first-ever Big West Setter of the Week award after opening the sophomore campaign with gusto for the Rainbow Warriors. 

  • Rosenthal averaged 13.43 assists per set in a two-match home series against No. 20 McKendree, leading UH to a combined.406 team hitting percentage over the weekend.  

  • The second-year player from Austin, Texas, recorded 54 assists with five service aces in the season opener on Friday, adding two kills, two digs and two blocks in the match.  

  • On Sunday, Rosenthal compiled 40 assists in the three-setter, with three kills and six digs as the ‘Bows hit .463 in the rematch.  

  • Including last week’s exhibition victory against British Columbia, the reigning Big West Freshman of the Year tallied 119 total assists.
