The Big West Women's Tennis Notebook: 2025 Season Well Underway

2025 Big West Women's Tennis Schedule | Standings

- The 2025 season for Big West women's tennis teams is well underway. Nine out of 10 teams have played multiple matches heading into February. 

Hawai'i (2-1, 1-0 BW) already has a conference win under its belt with a 5-2 home win over CSUN. The Rainbow Wahine are highlighted by Ana Vilcek's 2-1 singles record, all in No. 1 singles, and Peppi Ramstedt at 3-0. 

UC Santa Barbara (1-3, 0-0 BW) defeated No. 21 Vanderbilt by a score of 4-1 at the ITA Kickoff Weekend for its lone win of the season. The Gauchos are ranked No. 24 in the latest ITA team rankings. Amelia Honer, the No. 16 singles player in the nation, is 3-0 so far, all in No. 1 singles. The team of Honer and Marie Weissheim are the ninth-ranked doubles pair in the country. 

Cal Poly (2-1, 0-0 BW) has two wins over Northern Arizona (4-3) and Montana State (6-1). Kennedy Buntrock is 2-0 in No. 1 singles and the pair of Sarah MacCallum and Amy Leather are 2-1 overall. 

Long Beach State (1-1, 0-0 BW) got an impressive 6-1 win at Seattle to open the season. Pamela Badillo is 2-0 in singles play. 

Angela Ho of CSUN (1-1, 0-1 BW) is off to an unbeaten start, going 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles with partner Yuliia Zhytelna

Julia Haynes of UC San Diego (0-3, 0-0 BW) is ranked 77th in singles and has a 2-1 singles record, including a ranked win over No. 24 Emilija Tverijonaite of Arizona State.

Fall Highlights
UC Santa Barbara’s Amelia Honer represented The Big West at the 2024 NCAA Tennis Championships as a singles player. 

The Gaucho senior got the qualification after winning the singles competition at the ITA Women’s Southwest Regionals, held at San Diego State, defeating Savannah Broadus of Pepperdine 6-2, 6-2 in the final. Honer’s wins in the tournament include Cecilia Costa (Long Beach State), Imogen Haddad (USC), Hannah Read (San Diego), Stefania Rogozinska-Dzik (LMU) and Emilija Tverijonaite (Arizona State).

Honer was knocked out in first round of the 2024 NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championship.

No. 5 seed Cal Poly captured the 2024 Big West Championship with a 4-3 victory over No. 6 Cal State Fullerton. It was Cal Poly's second overall Big West title and the first since 2003. 

Delanie Dunkle and Peyton Dunkle ignited the Mustangs with a 6-0 sweep at No. 1 doubles before the pairing of Melissa LaMette and Romane Mosse clinched the No. 2 spot (6-3) to take home the doubles point. 

In singles action, Cal State Fullerton's Natalie Duffy evened the score (6-4, 6-3) after claiming court three. Mosse managed to give the Mustangs the advantage again with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 4. On court two, Peyton Dunkle went the distance (6-1, 4-6, 6-2) and extended Cal Poly's lead to a 3-1 team advantage.

Cal State Fullerton roared back when Josie Usereau earned a comeback victory, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 at the topflight for the Titans before Mariia Nikitash took home a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 triumph to tie the match at an even 3-3.  

From there, the championship match would be decided at No. 5 singles as Melissa LaMette clinched the 4-3 victory for the Mustangs by score of 2-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4.
