UC Davis team ambassador
Ryann Bennett is already raising funds and awareness for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund ahead of UC Davis' Play for Kay game on Feb. 6 and the yearlong Tough Like Tammy campaign this basketball season.
A year ago, the joint venture between Big West women's basketball, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and Big West women's basketball analyst Tammy Blackburn more than doubled its goal of raising $5,000. The goal in 2024-25 is to raise $15,000 through donations or pledges for each offensive rebound secured during the final month of the Big West women's basketball season. This year, each Big West program selected team ambassadors to spearhead the effort to exceed the team goal of $1,000 per institution.
Bennett, a freshman guard from Long Beach, Calif., is determined to help UC Davis land atop the fundraising leaderboard while playing for a pair of great grandmothers this season. Thus far, the Aggies have tallied $545 of their $1,000 team goal before the TLT month tips off in earnest on Feb. 1, with Bennett soliciting for donations from friends and family and encouraging teammates to do the same.
Throughout the month of February, fans are encouraged to make a donation for each offensive rebound made, or by making a one-time donation to a Big West team at any time throughout the season in The Big West's efforts to reach the $15,000 goal.
All proceeds from Tough Like Tammy will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Since the fund's inception, more than $8.78 million has been awarded for scientific research and related programs focused on women's cancers and helping the underserved. Thus far this season, Tough Like Tammy has raised
$2,490.
