Offensive Player of the Week
Nolan Flexen, UC Irvine | Junior • Opposite Hitter • Rio Rancho, N.M.
  • UC Irvine opposite hitter Nolan Flexen was dominant in two wins over No. 5 BYU en route to a first career honor as Big West Offensive Player of the Week.  

  • The junior averaged 5.00 kills on .423 hitting, with 5.63 points, 1.75 digs and 1.00 blocks per set as No. 2 UC Irvine dispatched the Cougars twice in their home gym, handing BYU their first losses of the year. 

  • In Wednesday’s match, Flexen put down a career-high 26 kills, including five of six attempts in the decisive fifth set, to go along with a career-best nine digs and season-high five blocks.  

  • In the Friday rematch, the Rio Rancho, N.M., native totaled 14 kills in the sweep with five digs and three block assists. 

  • Flexen is currently in the national top 10 in multiple offensive statistical categories, including hitting percentage (.426 - 8th), kills per set (4.29 - 4th) and points per set (5.09 - 4th).

Defensive Player of the Week
Micah Goss, UC Irvine | Freshman • Middle Blocker • Santa Barbara, Calif.
  • Freshman Micah Goss controlled the net in No. 2 UC Irvine’s two victories over No. 5 BYU to pick up Big West Defensive Player of the Week honors, a first career weekly award.  

  • The middle blocker averaged 1.63 kills, 2.63 points and 1.88 blocks per set, including nine total blocks in the opening contest. At 13-12 in the fifth set, Goss had a solo block to give UCI match point. Goss also added eight kills on .467 hitting in Thursday’s five setter.   

  • The Santa Barbara, Calif., product followed with six blocks and five kills while hitting .400 in Friday’s sweep of the Cougars.  

  • With the big weekend on the block, Goss bumped the season average to 1.438 blocks per set, good for fifth in the country and third in the powerhouse Big West.

Setter of the Week
Joe Karlous, UC Irvine | Graduate Student • Setter • Costa Mesa, Calif.
  • 8136Joe Karlous guided No. 2 UC Irvine to a pair of victories over previously unbeaten No. 5 BYU to claim Big West Setter of the Week. This is a first weekly setter honor for the graduate student, and second career nod after picking up the weekly defensive award back on March 20, 2023.  

  • The Costa Mesa, Calif., native averaged 10.38 assists and 3.50 digs per set while the Anteaters hit a combined .335 on the week.  

  • Karlous had a season-high 53 set assists and 12 digs in the first meeting with the Cougars, a five-set victory for the home squad on Thursday.  

  • The setter then totaled 36 assists and tied a career-high with 16 digs in Friday’s sweep to cap the weekend. 

  • Karlous is now leading The Big West in digs with a 2.43 average, good for 11th nationally. The season assist average of 10.36 ranks third in the conference and eighth in the country.
