Player of the Week Julia Haynes, UC San Diego | Graduate Student • San Diego, Calif.

• UC San Diego graduate student Julia Haynes won two singles matches, one against a ranked opponent, and a doubles match to earn The Big West Women's Tennis Player of the Week. It is the San Diego native's first career weekly honor.

• Playing at No. 1, the 77th-ranked Haynes knocked off 24th-ranked Emilija Tverijonaite of Arizona State in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. It was UC San Diego’s first-ever win over a top 25 opponent in its Division I era. 

• The Triton graduate student won again on Sunday in the top spot, downing GCU’s Karina Hofbauer in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).

• Playing in the top doubles position, Haynes teamed with senior Naomi Nguyen to earn a win over GCU’s Hofbauer and Dania Deaifi, 6-4, on Sunday morning.
