Offensive Player of the Week
Jalen Phillips, CSUN | Redshirt Sophomore • Opposite Hitter • Anaheim, Calif.
  • CSUN’s Jalen Phillips had a monster week at the Under Armour Challenge to claim Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors. Named the week’s top freshman four times last season, this is Phillips’ first offensive award.  

  • In wins over Purdue Fort Wayne and Lindenwood, Phillips averaged 6.57 kills per set while hitting .430 on 86 swings. In seven sets, the opposite hitter committed just nine errors in the two wins while adding seven digs, three blocks, and one ace. 

  • Phillips had 19 kills on .471 hitting in a 3-0 sweep over PFW before connecting for a career-high 27 kills on 52 swings to hit .404 against Lindenwood. 

  • Thus far on the year, Phillips is leading the nation in kills (5.47) and points (5.91) per set as the Matadors are a perfect 5-0 and ranked 15th.

Defensive Player of the Week
Jim Garrison, UC San Diego | Junior • Middble Blocker • Manhattan Beach, Calif.
  • 8138After a strong performance at the net in a 3-0 week, UC San Diego’s Jim Garrison has claimed Big West Defensive Player of the Week. This is a first weekly honor since a freshman nod back on April 10, 2023. 

  • Garrison totaled 16 blocks, or 1.60 per set) with 1.10 kills per set on .320 hitting in the trio of Triton wins. Currently sitting at 6-0 on the season, UCSD is enjoying its best start since 1996. 

  • In Tuesday’s home match against George Mason, the middle blocker matched a career-best with eight total blocks, including one solo, in the sweep. 

  • In wins over Lindenwood and Purdue Fort Wayne at the Under Armour Challenge, the junior from Manhattan Beach, Calif., added four blocks and four kills in each match. 

  • Garrison’s 1.556 season blocking average stands in second in The Big West and fifth nationally.

Setter of the Week
Donovan Constable, CSUN | Senior • Setter • Clovis, Calif.
  • After guiding the Matadors to a pair of victories, senior Donovan Constable earned back-to-back Big West Setter of the Week honors.  

  • The senior from Clovis, Calif., handed out 87 assists over seven sets to average 12.43 per set as the team hit a combined .387 in wins over Purdue Fort Wayne (3-0) and Lindenwood (3-1) in the Under Armour Challenge. 

  • Along with directing the offense, Constable added five digs in both matches (1.43 per set) and served up three aces in Friday’s sweep of PFW. 

  • Constable upped the season average to 11.71 assists per set to lead The Big West and rate second in NCAA Division I-II. The 0.765 aces per set average ranks 10th nationally and sixth in the powerhouse Big West.

Freshman of the Week
Moni Nikolov, Long Beach State | Freshman • Setter • Sofia, Bulgaria
  • 8042Freshman setter Moni Nikolov guided No. 2 Long Beach State to a trio of road wins on their midwestern road trip to pick up a first career Big West Freshman of the Week award. 

  • The setter from Sofia, Bulgaria, averaged 10.90 assists per set as the Beach hit .394 in wins at Lindenwood, McKendree and No. 12 Lewis.  

  • Along with primary setting duties, Nikolov also chipped in on the offense with a team-high nine aces, including five against Lewis, and finished with 14 kills (1.40 per set). Defensively, Nikolov led Long Beach State with 30 digs (3.00 per set), including 16 against the Flyers and was in on five blocks on the week. 

  • The freshman is currently leading the league in digs average (2.54) and rates in the top five in assists average (10.38 - 4th) and aces average (0.769 - 5th). The aces per set mark rates ninth in the country.
