In wins over Purdue Fort Wayne and Lindenwood, Phillips averaged 6.57 kills per set while hitting .430 on 86 swings. In seven sets, the opposite hitter committed just nine errors in the two wins while adding seven digs, three blocks, and one ace.

After a strong performance at the net in a 3-0 week, UC San Diego’s Jim Garrison has claimed Big West Defensive Player of the Week. This is a first weekly honor since a freshman nod back on April 10, 2023.

In Tuesday’s home match against George Mason, the middle blocker matched a career-best with eight total blocks, including one solo, in the sweep.

In wins over Lindenwood and Purdue Fort Wayne at the Under Armour Challenge, the junior from Manhattan Beach, Calif., added four blocks and four kills in each match.

The senior from Clovis, Calif., handed out 87 assists over seven sets to average 12.43 per set as the team hit a combined .387 in wins over Purdue Fort Wayne (3-0) and Lindenwood (3-1) in the Under Armour Challenge.

The setter from Sofia, Bulgaria, averaged 10.90 assists per set as the Beach hit .394 in wins at Lindenwood, McKendree and No. 12 Lewis.

Along with primary setting duties, Nikolov also chipped in on the offense with a team-high nine aces, including five against Lewis, and finished with 14 kills (1.40 per set). Defensively, Nikolov led Long Beach State with 30 digs (3.00 per set), including 16 against the Flyers and was in on five blocks on the week.
