Liz Worden, Mackenzie Samuel and Abella Hunter Awarded Players of the Week

Offensive Player of the Week 
Liz Worden, Long Beach State | Junior • Forward • Riverside, Calif. 
  • 32247Liz Worden put together a four-point performance by contributing to three of Long Beach State's four goals versus UC San Diego to secure The Big West Offensive Player of the Week accolade. This is the first weekly distinction of Worden's collegiate career.     

  • The Riverside, Calif. native notched the first find of the evening on a free kick that found the head of teammate Julia Moore for a score in the 32nd minute.  

  • Worden would then score the junior's third tally of the season at the 60:50 mark to knot the match at two-all against UCSD. Dramatically, Worden would record the Texas transfer's second assist of the night to Makayla Demelo for LBSU's game-winning score in the 83rd minute, 4-3.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Makenzie Samuel, Cal Poly | Senior • Goalkeeper • San Diego, Calif. 
  • 8038Mackenzie Samuel earned the 18th shutout of the senior's career en route to earning the Big West Defensive Player of the Week honor. This is the fifth weekly distinction of Samuel's career and first of 2024 (Oct. 4, 2021, Oct. 17, 2022, Aug. 28, Sept. 18, 2023).   

  • Samuel helped set the tone to take home the Mustangs' first Big West match of the year by logging the lone save versus UC Riverside. Next match against Cal State Fullerton, Samuel secured a 2024 high in saves with 10 stops.  

  • After this week, Samuel moved to No. 8 all-time in Cal Poly history in career saves (182) fifth all-time in matches played (54), and starts (53) among Cal Poly goalkeepers and is tied for fifth in shutouts (18).   

  • Overall, Samuel sits second in The Big West with a 1.125 GAA and fourth in the league in stops with 32 saves.

Freshman of the Week 
Abella Hunter, UC Davis | Freshman • Midfielder • Santa Rosa, Calif. 
  • 22608Midfielder Abella Hunter of UC Davis has been awarded The Big West Freshman of the Week following an impressive performance against Cal State Fullerton last week. This is the first weekly distinction of the freshman's career.    

  • Hunter came up big for the Aggies by netting the midfielder's first career score in the 68th minute. The tally would prove to be the game-winner as UCD bested CSUF, 2-1 for their first Big West win of the year.  

  • Overall, Hunter has logged 474 minutes on the pitch this, the second-most amongst active Aggie freshmen this season. UC Davis is 8-4-0 overall with a 1-2 record in Big West matches.
