Ceja and Schuck of LBSU Earn Players of the Week While Damacion of UH Claims Second Straight Honor

Offensive Player of the Week 
Kassandra Ceja, Long Beach State | Senior • Forward • Lanthrop, Calif. 
  • 32247Kassandra Ceja turned two of senior's three shots into tallies in Long Beach State's Big West opener against UC Riverside to claim The Big West Offensive Player of the Week accolade. This is the second weekly distinction of Ceja's collegiate career (Aug. 28, 2023).   

  • The Lanthrop, Calif. native collected the first tally of the night after heading in a score during the 30th minute of play. Less than three minutes later, Ceja was fouled in front of the net and converted on a penalty shot to secure the brace and make the match 2-0. LBSU bested UCR, 3-0. 

  • The previous contest versus Cornell, Ceja helped seal the deal for LBSU recording an assist on the game-winning goal in the 1-0 victory. Overall, the senior forward has amassed 9 points this season (2 goals, 3 assists.) 

  • Currently, Long Beach State sits atop The Big West with a 1-0 record in conference following the first week of league play. LBSU went 2-0 on the week.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Aurora Schuck, Long Beach State | Redshirt sophomore • Goalkeeper • Lakewood, Calif. 
  • 32247Aurora Schuck secured consecutive shutout victories during a 2-0 week for Long Beach State to take home The Big West Defensive Player of the Week award. This is the first weekly distinction of Schuck's collegiate career.  

  • Schuck opened Big West play with eight stops against conference foe UC Riverside in a 3-0 shutout win. The eight saves accounted for the highest total in a Big West match last week.  

  • The prior match against Cornell, Schuck contributed one stop against Big Red's four total shots on the night.

  • Schuck has turned away 41 total shots this season, tied for fourth place in The Big West overall. With three shutouts on the season, Schuck sees the LBSU goaltender tied for the second most shutouts in the league.

Freshman of the Week 
Nalani Damacion, Hawai'i | Freshman • Midfielder • Rocklin, Calif. 
  • 25388For the second straight week and third time overall in 2024, midfielder Nalani Damacion has been deemed The Big West Freshman of the Week (Aug. 19, Sept. 16).    

  • The Rocklin, Calif. native put the game away once again for Hawai'i, this time courtesy of a penalty kick in the 51st minute. Damacion's score was the difference as the Rainbow Wahine took down UC Davis in a 2-1 decision. With the win, UH snapped UCD's four match winning streak and started conference play at 1-0.

  • Damacion is currently tied with teammate Brynn Mitchell for the team high in tallies with four, respectively. Individually, Damacion leads all Freshman in The Big West in points (8) and goals scored thus far and is the only freshman in the enitre nation with four-game winning goals.
