Alexander, Lang and Sylvester of Hawai'i Joined by CSUB's Georgiadis for Big West Weekly Honors

Offensive Player of the Week 
Caylen Alexander, Hawai'i | Junior • Outside Hitter • Alpharetta, Ga.
  • Caylen Alexander of Hawai’i has been named Big West Offensive Player of the Week after landmark performance to cap the OUTRIGGER Invitational. The award is a first career offensive honor, and sixth overall after earning Freshman of the Week on five occasions back in 2022. 

  • Alexander posted the highest kills total in the nation this season with a career-high 38 against Texas State on Saturday. The junior became the first UH player to break the 30-kill barrier since 2016 and the first to exceed 35 kills since 2006 on the way to earning Tournament MVP honors. Alexander hit .338 while taking 74 swings in the match, the most for a UH player since 2012, and helped close out the victory with nine kills in the fifth set alone. The junior also served up two aces and posted 13 digs for a sixth double-double of the season.  

  • The Alpharetta, Ga., product racked up a total of 75 kills, or 5.36 kills per set, and had three aces and nine block assists for a total of 82.5 points (5.89 per set) in the three-win week for the Rainbow Wahine.  

  • Alexander has posted 20-plus kills five times this season and moved up to third nationally with 5.09 kills per set and fifth 5.61 points per set, both Big West bests.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Katerina Georgiadis, Cal State Bakersifeld | Graduate Student • Libero • Ontario, Canada
  • 8014Cal State Bakersfield’s Katerina Georgiadis helped anchor the Roadrunner defense at the Boise State Classic to earn Big West Defensive Player of the Week. The award is a first career nod for Georgiadis, who transferred to CSUB after a four-year career at Santa Clara. 

  • Georgiadis averaged 4.82 digs and 2.09 assists per set with double-figure kill tallies in each match.  

  • In Saturday’s 3-1 win against Gonzaga, the libero from Ontario, Canada, scooped out 18 digs with six assists. All told, Georgiadis has recorded 116 total digs to rank sixth in The Big West thus far in 2024. 

  • This is the first time in Big West women’s volleyball history that Cal State Bakersfield has enjoyed weekly winners on consecutive weeks and is just the fourth overall weekly honor for a Roadrunner since joining the league four years ago.

Setter of the Week 
Kate Lang, Hawai'i | Senior • Setter • Keller, Texas
  • Kate Lang helped direct the Hawai’i offense to a trio of victorious efforts to claim Big West Setter of the Week. This marks Lang’s first weekly honor in 2024, and 12th career weekly setter nod.  

  • Lang racked up a total of 145 assists, averaging 10.36 per set, and put down 12 kills over three matches last week.  

  • The senior also had 41 digs, or 2.93 per set, to post back-to-back double-doubles at the OUTRIGGER Invitational. Lang posted consecutive 50-plus assist efforts en route to All-Tournament Team selection.  

  • The Keller, Texas, native, had 50 with 18 digs against Oregon State and capped the week with 56 assists, a season-high five kills and 17 digs in a second meeting against Texas State.  

  • Lang ran an efficient offense in a pair of matches that went the full five sets with UH hitting .333 in the decisive frames against Oregon State and Texas State.

Freshman of the Week 
Miliana Sylvester, Hawai'i | Freshman • Middle Blocker • Honolulu
  • 8036Hawai’i first-year player and Honolulu native Miliana Sylvester can add Big West Freshman of the Week to the list of honors after being named to the OUTRIGGER Invitational All-Tournament Team. 

  • The middle blocker posted 29 kills and 12 blocks over three matches as the Rainbow Wahine went 3-0.  

  • Sylvester’s kills total for the week was second on the team to calculate out to 2.07 kills per set on .333 hitting.  

  • In Friday’s win over Oregon State, Sylvester closed the five-setter with 11 kills and seven blocks, including one solo stuff. In Saturday’s second win over Texas State, the freshman capped the weekend with eight kills with just one error to hit .389.
