Fontes, Barretto and Damacion Named Women's Soccer Players of the Week

Offensive Player of the Week 
Genavieve Fontes, UC Davis | Redshirt junior • Midfielder • Hilmar, Calif. 
  • Genavieve Fontes garnered a brace in both Aggies wins this week to secure The Big West Offensive Player of the Week award for the first time in the senior midfielder's career.  

  • In just 49 minutes of action on the pitch, Fontes found the back of the net twice in UCD's 3-0 victory versus Utah Valley. 

  • Against LSU, Fontes started off the scoring in the 13th minute of the match before sealing the deal for UC Davis with the game-winning strike that was delivered at the 82:11 mark to seal the 4-3 win.

  • Currently, Fontes is first in the league with seven tallies which is tied with teammate forward/midfielder Sam Tristan. Riding a four-match winning streak, UC Davis is positioned as the top team in The Big West with a 7-2-0 overall record. 

  • The seven tallies from the foot of Fontes are tied for 13th place overall in Division I.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Bella Baretto, UC Davis |  Sophomore • Goalkeeper • Yorba Linda, Calif. 
  • 8138Bella Baretto helped guide UC San Diego to an undefeated week in the goalkeeper's first two career starts. This is the first weekly distinction of the sophomore's career.  

  • In the first of two road contests, Baretto played all 90 minutes in net and recorded five saves in the first career start. Next match against the Aztecs, Baretto boasted a clean sheet performance while also setting a new career high in saves with six total stops.

  • With the win, the Tritons notched their first road triumph of the season and theirgame-clinching over San Diego in program history. UC San Diego now sits with a 2-5-1 overall record ahead of conference play.

Freshman of the Week 
Nalani Damacion, Hawai'i | Freshman • Freshman • Rocklin, Calif. 
  • 25388Nalani Damacion has been named Big West Freshman of the Week for the second time this season after coming in clutch for the Rainbow Wahine yet again (Aug. 19, 2024) this time against Portland State.    

  • Damacion found the back of the net in the 85th minute for Hawai'i to seal the deal with a 2-1 victory. The forward now stands as one of only three freshmen in the nation with three game-winning goals. The Rocklin, Calif. Native notched te game-clinching chingching tally in all three of UH's come-from-behind victories.   

  • Damacion is tied for the team lead in goals (3). Hawai'i is a perfect 3-0 in games when Damacion records a tally.
