UC Santa Barbara's Ajay Mitchell Selected 38th Overall in NBA Draft

With the 38th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, UC Santa Barbara alum Ajay Mitchell was selected by the New York Knicks with a proposed trade that will send the former Gaucho to the Oklahoma City Thunder.  

Mitchell is a three-time All-Big West selection, garnering First Team honors the previous two seasons and was the league's Player of the Year and Championship MVP in 2022-23. Last season, the Ans, Liege, Belgium product averaged 20.0 points, on 50.4 percent shooting, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. Mitchell compiled 1,463 points in three seasons at Santa Barbara. 

The Belgian guard is the 128th draft selection from The Big West and first since James Ennis III of Long Beach State was picked in the second round of the 2013 edition of the draft. Mitchell is the 14th Gaucho to be picked, joining Gaucho legends like Orlando Johnson and Brian Shaw.
