IRVINE, Calif. - The All-Big West women's tennis teams and major award winners are now revealed, following the conclusion of the 2024 Big West Women's Tennis Championship. The teams and awards were voted on by the league's ten head coaches.
UC Santa Barbara junior Amelia Honer is The Big West Player of the Year. Honer collected 20 wins (20-2 overall) while going a perfect 9-0 in conference play, all at the No. 1 singles position. The Newtown, Pa. product is the highest-ranked singles player from The Big West in the ITA rankings, sitting at No. 48 in the latest edition.
Honer not only made the All-Big West First Team as a singles player, but also as a doubles pair with teammate Kira Reuter, going 13-2 overall and unblemished (7-0) in Big West action, all at the top spot. The Gaucho duo is ranked 41st in the nation. Honer will be a participant in both singles and doubles, with Reuter, in the upcoming NCAA Women's Tennis Championship.
Josie Usereau of Cal State Fullerton claims The Big West Freshman of the Year accolade after going 12-6 overall in 5-4 in conference play. At the top flight, Usereau collected nine wins while going a perfect 3-0 at the No. 2 position in singles.
Cal Poly head coach Ellie Edles Williams was named The Big West Coach of the Year. Williams guided the Mustangs to a 13-8-1 overall mark and a 5-3-1 record in conference play. Cal Poly captured the 2024 Big West Women's Tennis Championships as the No. 5 seed and clinched three straight 4-3 triumphs versus No. 4 Long Beach State in quarterfinals, No. 1 UC Santa Barbara in the semifinals, and No. 6 Cal State Fullerton to clinch the conference crown. The Mustangs earned the league's automatic qualifier and will participate in the upcoming NCAA Women's Tennis Team Championship.
Seven singles players from four schools were selected to the All-Big West First Team. Joining Honer on the list is Long Beach State's Rhona Cook (21-11, 7-1 BW), Cal Poly's Peyton Dunkle (12-6, 4-3 BW), UC Santa Barbara's Camille Kiss (16-7, 8-1 BW), Cal State Fullerton's Sien Myoung (12-8, 6-3 BW), Arianna Stavropoulos of UC Davis (10-10, 6-3 BW) and Josie Usereau (12-6, 5-4 BW) of Cal State Fullerton.
The doubles pairing on the All-Big West first team feature the partnerships of Long Beach State's Rhona Cook and Peppi Ramstedt (22-9, 12-5 BW), Cal Poly's Delanie Dunkle and Peyton Dunkle (13-5, 5-1 BW), UC Santa Barbara's Kira Reuter and Amelia Honer (13-2, 7-0 BW) and CSUN's Sasha Turchak and Yuliia Zhytelna (11-5, 6-2 BW).
Singles on the second team see Delanie Dunkle of Cal Poly, Nikola Homolkova of Hawai'i, Mika Ikermori of UC Davis, Nelly Knezkova of Hawai'i, Romane Mosse of Cal Poly and Ana Vilcek of Hawai'i land themselves on the list.
Lucy Lu and Camillie Kiss of UC Santa Barbara, Romane Mosse and Melissa LaMette of Cal Poly, Sein Myoung and Josie Usereau of Cal State Fullerton, Arianna Stavropoulos and Mika Ikermori of UC Davis round out the All-Big West doubles honors.
