Big West Champion Cal Poly Set to Clash with No. 11 Southern California in 2024 NCAA Women’s Championship First Round

Cal Poly will face Southern California in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship, on Friday, May 3 at 2 p.m. PT hosted at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. on the campus of Southern California. 

The Mustangs (13-8-1) punched their ticket to the national tournament by winning the 2024 Big West Women's Tennis Championship to earn the league's automatic qualifier. Cal Poly captured its second Big West title in program history (first since 2003) with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Cal State Fullerton.  

Southern California is ranked No. 11 in the latest ITA rankings and enters nationals with an 18-8 record.  

The winner of the match will move on and play the victor of Grand Canyon vs San Diego on Saturday, May 4 or Sunday, May 5. Following super regionals, winners advance to the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 17-19. The event will be hosted by Oklahoma State University.

Back in 2003, Cal Poly fell to Georgia Tech 4-0 in the opening round during the team's last NCAA appearance.
