Hailey Mulligan of UCSD, Lauryn Carranco of CSUN and Malayna Terrones of LBSU Take Home Weekly Honors

 
Field Player of the Week 
Hailey Mulligan, UC San Diego |  • Sophomore • Outfielder • San Deigo, Calif. 
  • 8138UC San Diego infielder Hailey Mulligan played a big part in the Triton's seven contests this week, including three straight wins to claim the Big West Field Player of the Week award. This is the second weekly distinction of Mulligan’s collegiate career after claiming Big West Freshman of the Week once last year (Apr. 24).  

  • The San Diego, Calif. native went a whopping 10-for-19 at the plate with a .526 batting average on the week. Overall, the sophomore notched four RBIs and scored two runs individually during the seven games.  

  • Mulligan’s main highlight of the week was when the sophomore hit the first collegiate home run of Hailey’s career.

Pitcher of the Week
Lauryn Carranco, CSUN | Sophomore • Pitcher • Clovis, Calif. 
  • 22607CSUN sophomore pitcher Lauryn Carranco tossed not one, but two complete games this weekend to secure the first Big West Pitcher of the week award. This is the fifth weekly distinction of Carranco's collegiate career after securing Big West Freshman of the Week three times in 2023 (Apr. 3, May 1, 8), and once this year in 2024 (Feb. 19). 

  • While competing in the San Diego Tournament, the sophomore left-hander threw 17 strikeouts in 14 innings of work while posting a 0.50 ERA. On Friday, Carranco recorded a new career-high 12 strikeouts in the Matadors victory over the Toreros, 8-1. Carranco also carried a shutout heading into the seventh inning.     

  • Against UNLV, the former Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year went the distance versus UNLV and did not allow a single run paired with five strikeouts. The sophomore improved to 8-2 in 2024 and notched the fifth complete game of the season. Currently, CSUN leads the Big West with a 14-4 overall record.

Freshman of the Week 
Malayna Terrones, Long Beach State | Freshman • Outfielder • Garden Grove, Calif. 
  • 32247Long Beach State freshman outfielder Malayna Terrones made noise for The Beach during the Judi Garman Classic hosted on the campus of Cal State Fullerton, to earn The Big West Freshman of the Week award. This is the first weekly distinction of Terrones’ colligate career.  

  • Terrones tied a team-high with five RBIs and reached base in all five contests on the week sprinkled against nationally ranked opponents. The freshman nearly hit the cycle after falling short of a triple for Long Beach State with a home run, double, and single on Friday versus San Jose State.  

  • Earlier in the week during the first home game at the LBSU Softball Complex, the pride of Garden Grove, Calif. helped give The Beach a 2-1 lead over Michigan with Terrones’ first home run of the freshman’s collegiate career. Long Beach State pushed past the Wolverines, 7-6, in 9 innings.
