Hawai’i junior outfielder/pitcher Chole Borges recorded at least one hit, one run and an RBI in all three games this weekend against CSUN to claim The Big West Field Player of the Week award. This is the first weekly distinction of Borges’s collegiate career.

The West Jordan, Utah native went 2-for-3 and knocked home a 2-RBI single as the Rainbow Wahine took the first contest over the Matadors, 11-2. As a hitter, Borges blasted a solo home run in game two and launched a two-run bomb in the series finale to help secure the series sweep. In the circle, the junior entered game two in relief and recorded a strikeout swinging to stifle CSUN’s comeback efforts. From there, Borges shut the door and only allowed two hits and a pair of walks while throwing three strikeouts.
- In the series finale, Borges went a perfect 2-for-2 after belting the junior’s second home run of the series knocking in three RBI. Currently, Hawai’i holds a 4-2 record in Big West play while sporting a mark of 11-6 overall.

Senior pitcher Sophia Fernandez threw two complete games over 18 innings for Long Beach State versus UC Davis to secure The Big West Pitcher of the Week award. This is the first weekly distinction of Fernandez's collegiate career.

The Torrance, Calif. native only allowed one earned run in the senior’s pair of starts this weekend. In the game one opener versus UC Davis, Fernandez gave up a lone run in the first and proceeded to pitch 10 straight scoreless innings en route to an 11-inning 2-1 victory for the Beach. Fernandez also tied a career-high seven strikeouts in the game one thriller. In the series finale, Fernandez fanned a batter and recorded a complete game to secure the series -sweep over the Aggies, 4-1.

Fernandez’s 39 total strikeouts place ninth overall as of now in the league. Currently, Long Beach State is tied atop The Big West standings with Cal Poly and Cal State Fullerton at a 5-1 mark in conference play.

Freshman outfielder Kate Verhoef helped lead Cal State Fullerton to a sweep versus Cal State Bakersfield last weekend to take home The Big West Freshman of the Week award.

The Aliso Viejo, Calif. native notched five hits in the freshman’s seven at-bats during three starts in field. Overall, Verhoef recorded an RBI, two runs, walked once, and stole a base for the Titans in their trio of games.
- Overall, Cal State Fullerton is jockeying with Cal Poly and Long Beach for the top spot in The Big West with identical records of 5-1 in league play. The Titans top the best overall record of the trio at 19-11 overall (.633).
