CSUN's Constable and Hobus Joined by Sakanoko of Hawai'i for Big West Men's Volleyball Weekly Awards

Offensive Player of the Week 
Donovan Constable, CSUN | Junior • Setter • Clovis, Calif.
  • 8012After splitting the season series at Hawai’i, CSUN junior Donovan Constable was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week for the efforts on O’ahu. This is Constable’s third career weekly award, and the first of the offensive variety. 

  • The setter from Clovis, Calif., had a pair of solid all-around matches, directing the CSUN hitters to .327 hitting clip while averaging 10.63 assists and 1.50 digs per set with 10.5 total points.  

  • In Friday's opener, the Matadors hit .270 as Constable handed out 39 assists to go with four kills on .429 hitting, four digs and three blocks.  

  • In Saturday's 3-1 upset win, CSUN hit .387 as Constable registered 46 assists along with two kills, one ace, eight digs and three blocks in the Matadors’ first win in Honolulu since 2013. 

  • Constable is now averaging 9.82 assists per set, which rates fourth in the powerhouse Big West and 11th in the country.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Kyle Hobus, CSUN | Senior • Outside Hitter • San Pedro, Calif. 
  • CSUN senior Kyle Hobus spearheaded the Matadors’ defensive effort in a two-match series split at then-No. 2 Hawai’i to earn Big West Defensive Player of the Week. This is a fifth career weekly award and the second defensive nod, also earning honors on Feb. 28, 2022.  

  • In addition to 32 kills on .377 hitting, Hobus had nine blocks and five digs while serving as a primary passer on the CSUN back line. In Friday's contest, Hobus had 21 kills (.395), five digs, and three blocks while receiving 20 Hawai'i serves. 

  • For the week, Hobus posted averages of 4.00 kills, 5.00 points and 1.13 blocks per set as CSUN halted a nine-match winning streak for the Rainbow Warriors in the all-time series.

Freshman of the Week 
Louis Sakanoko, Hawai'i | Freshman • Outside Hitter • Paris, France
  • 8036After another productive weekend, Hawai’i first-year player Louis Sakanoko claimed consecutive honors for Big West Freshman of the Week. Sakanoko has now tallied three weekly honors, including back-to-back selections. 

  • The native of Paris, France, totaled 29 kills (3.63 per set), 16 digs (2.00 per set), and six blocks (0.75 per set) in a two-match series split against CSUN over the weekend. 

  • Sakanoko tallied 10 kills, three aces, seven digs, and three blocks in Friday’s four-set win.  

  • The freshman tied season-high of 19 kills while hitting .324 to along with nine digs and three blocks in the rematch, a 3-1 win for the visiting Matadors.
