Cal State Fullerton’s Jess Alcala, Cal Poly’s Sophia Ramuno, and UC Santa Barbara’s Ainsley Waddell Claim Weekly Honors

 
Field Player of the Week 
Jessi Alcala, Cal State Fullerton |  •Senior • Catcher • Whittier, Calif. 
  • 27265Cal State Fullerton senior catcher Jessi Alcala led the Titans at the plate during the opening weekend of Big West action at UC Davis this weekend to secure The Big West Field Player of the Week award. This is the first weekly distinction of Alcala's collegiate career.  

  • Over the series, Alcala was 5-for-8 (.625/.600/1.000) with three doubles and four RBI for the Titans in their 2-1 series win over the Aggies. The Whittier, Calif. native also collected the catcher's 10th run of the season over the weekend. Overall, Alaca is slashing .338/.368/.500 this year accompanied by an .868 OPS.   

  • Currently, Alaca leads the Titans in doubles (7) and The Big West in RBI (21). Following this weekend's results, Cal State Fullerton is 2-1 in conference play and sports an overall record of 16-11.

Pitcher of the Week
Sophia Ramuno, Cal Poly | Sophomore • Pitcher • San Diego, Calif. 
  • 8038Cal Poly pitcher Sophia Ramuno went 2-0 in the sophomore's two starts over CSUN to clinch The Big West Pitcher of the Week award. This is the first weekly distinction of Ramuno's collegiate career. 

  • The San Diego, Calif. Native tossed a 0.48 ERA while striking out 20 total batters on the weekend. An overall 2.78 ERA by Ramuno ranks sixth overall in the league. Ramuno matched the sophomore's career high with 10 strikeouts during the team's 2-0 triumph to secure the series sweep over CSUN.

  • Cal Poly currently sits atop The Big West standings with UC San Diego as the two teams to sweep opening series weekend, 3-0.

Freshman of the Week 
Anisley Waddell, UC Santa Barbara | Freshman • Pitcher/Outfielder • San Carlos, Calif. 
  • 25021Freshman pitcher/outfielder Ainsley Waddell did it all for UC Santa Barbara versus Hawai'i last weekend to secure The Big West Freshman of the Week award. This is the second weekly distinction of Waddell's colligate career after earning the honor nearly a month ago.   

  • Waddell went 4-for-8 (.500) on the weekend sending home two runs alongside a pair of runs scored. Without striking out a single at-bat against the Rainbow Wahine, the freshman now leads the Gauchos in RBI with a team-high 21.  

  • In the circle, Waddell earned one win and a 2.62 ERA. During the freshman's 5.1 innings of work, Waddell stuck out five batters in UC Santa Barbara's first series win over Hawai'i since 2018. Currently, the Gauchos have eight overall wins with a 2-1 record in Big West play.
