Senior Kyle Hobus had a big week as the Matadors split two matches at No. 4 Stanford to earn Big West Offensive Player of the Week. This is a fourth career weekly honor, and the second of the offensive variety (Feb. 28, 2022).

Hobus had double figure kills in each match, opening the series with 10 kills, six blocks and four digs in Friday’s match. Four of the rejections were credited as solo stuffs for the product of San Pedro, Calif.

In Saturday’s 3-1 win, Hobus compiled a match-high 22 kills as CSUN handed the Cardinal their first loss on the season. Hobus hit .415 on 41 attacks to go with five digs and three blocks. The outside hitter also had two of CSUN's six aces in the series – one in each match.

Hobus currently rates in the national Top 25 in kills (3.37 - 25th), points (4.34 - 14th) and aces (.500 - 20th) per set.

Defensive Player of the Week

Junior setter Donovan Constable had a pair of impressive all-around matches as No. 17 CSUN handed No. 4 Stanford its first loss of the season to claim Big West Defensive Player of the Week for the first time.

On Friday, Constable had 36 assists, five digs, three blocks, and a pair of kills as Stanford took the match 3-1.

The Clovis, Calif., native finished with 52 assists, two aces, six digs and a co-match-high four blocks (one solo) in Saturday's 3-1 win.

For the week, Constable averaged 11.0 assists, 1.30 digs and 1.0 points and .88 blocks per set while directing the CSUN hitters to a .313 hitting clip over eight sets.

Constable currently leads The Big West and ranks second in the NCAA in assist average with 10.26 per set.

CSUN redshirt freshman Jalen Phillips secured a second Big West Freshman of the Week award after helping the Matadors to a split at No. 4 Stanford.

Phillips had double figure kills in each match, including 19 kills in Saturday's 3-1 win, the first loss of the year for the Cardinal. Phillips hit .412 on 34 swings along with a season and match-high eight digs. The opposite hitter from Anaheim, Calif., also added two blocks in the victorious effort.

Phillips also had 11 kills and a pair of digs on Friday.

Hitting .368 on the season, Phillips is sixth among The Big West’s heavy hitters, and 16th nationally. Phillips is one of three freshmen in the top 25 in the category.
