Program Record Nets Sumayah Sugapong of UC San Diego Big West Player of the Week Acclaim

  • 8138After setting a new program record, sophomore Sumayah Sugapong of UC San Diego has been tapped for Big West Player of the Week honors for Dec. 2. This is a second career weekly award, also earning distinction on Dec. 25, 2023.  

  • Sugapong set UC San Diego’s Division I single game record with seven steals at Stanford on Friday. The San Diego native led the Tritons in points (21), rebounds (6), assists (3) and steals against the Cardinal and finished four points shy of a career high in the contest.  

  • Sugapong is currently tied for sixth in The Big West in steals per game, averaging 2.13. The Tritons have three players in the top six in the category with teammates Sabrina Ma (2.50 - category leader) and Kayanna Spriggs (2.25) providing big contributions. As a team, UCSD leads the league and is 26th nationally in steals per game at 12.8.
