Historic Season Continues for Cal State Bakersfield After an Impressive 3-0 Victory over Regular-Season Champion Hawai'i

- No. 5 seed Cal State Bakersfield continues their historic season after a 3-0 victory over top-seeded and regular-season champion Hawai'i at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium in the semifinal round of the 2024 Big West Women's Soccer Championship. 

The Roadrunners (8-10-4), making their first postseason women's soccer appearance, have advanced to the schools first-ever Big West Championship finale in any sport after blanking the Rainbow Wahine. Defeating defending champion UC Irvine in the first round by a score of 1-0, the Roadrunners have not given up a postseason goal. CSUB advances to take on third-seeded UC Santa Barbara in Sunday's Championship finale, at 1 p.m. PT/11 a.m. HT on ESPN+.

Kamy Anaya played a crucial role as goalkeeper for the Roadrunners, recording five crucial saves in a shutout performance over 90 minutes. Anela Nigito was significant on the offensive front, scoring a goal that was also the game-winner in the 26th minute off a penalty kick to give CSUB the halftime advantage.

Megan Ormson and Cynthia Ramirez each contributed with a goal, demonstrating CSUB's offensive strength throughout the contest, with Paige Rodriguez and Kim Garcia both contributing key assists. The strike from Ramirez came in the 63rd minute with Ormson's kick sailing over the outstretched arms of UH goalkeeper Kennedy Justin in the 66th.

For the Rainbow Wahine, forward Cate Sheahan led the team in shot attempts with four, with midfielder Mia Foster contributing with three shots, two of which were on target. Big West Goalkeeper of the Year Justin recorded three saves against eight shots faced.

All told, UH outshot the Roadrunners 21-8 in the game, with 16 attempts coming in the second half of the run of play, but none could find the target, sending the home team away emptyhanded. After winning their first-ever Big West women's soccer regular-season championship, the Rainbow Wahine stand at 12-8-1 on the season after Thursday's result.
