No. 3 seed UC Santa Barbara Advances to 2024 Big West Championship Semifinals After a Pair of Second-Half Goals

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Third-seeded UC Santa Barbara secured a victory over No. 6 seed Cal State Fullerton with a final score of 2-1 in the first round of the 2024 Big West Women's Soccer Championship, on a sunny Sunday from Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara. 

UC Santa Barbara (7-5-8) advances to play No. 2 seed UC Davis in the semifinal round from on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. PT/4 p.m. HT from Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium on O'ahu. The Aggies won the first meeting between the two on Oct. 24, by a score of 1-0. This is the first Championship field in which UCSB has advanced since 2018. 

Big West Freshman of the Year Devin Greer was a standout player for the Gauchos, leading the team with one goal and one assist, contributing to three points in total. Greer also boasted a game-winning goal, in the 73rd minute of action. Sophomore Olivia Howard made a significant impact with a goal and two shots on goal from three attempts. Goalkeeper Maddie Buckley recorded three saves from nine Titans' shots faced. Caitlyn Simons contributed to the team's offensive plays with an assist on the strike from Howard.

Junior Kaylin Raibon stood out for Cal State Fullerton with a notable performance, scoring the team's only goal of the day off a penalty kick in the 66th minute of the the contest. Titans' goalkeeper Ranson, played the full 90 minutes, making four saves from 12 shots faced.

The Titans close the 2024 season with an overall record of 6-10-4.
