Hawai'i Duo Alexander and Lang Joined by Frosh Pair Hurriyet and Travis in Collecting Big West Women's Volleyball Weekly Honors

Offensive Player of the Week 
Caylen Alexander, Hawai'i | Junior • Opposite Hitter • Alpharetta, Ga.
  • Hawai’i junior Caylen Alexander continues to put up big numbers to lead the Rainbow Wahine offense, claiming a fifth Big West Offensive Player of the Week award for the season after a pair of victories. 

  • The outside hitter averaged 6.22 kills per set while posting a .331 hitting percentage to go along with five total blocks and four service aces in wins versus Cal State Bakersfield and CSUN. 

  • Last Tuesday, Alexander led the UH attack with 28 kills in 51 attempts to hit .431 with 14 kills and three aces in a four-set win against the Roadrunners.  

  • The Alpharetta, Ga., native notched 28 kills with 15 digs to record a 12th double-double of the season Sunday’s five-setter against the Matadors.   

  • Alexander has finished with 20-plus kills in 11 matches this season and increased the league-leading averages to 5.23 kills per set and 5.76 points per set. Alexander sits in third in NCAA Division I in both statistical categories.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Elif Hurriyet, Cal Poly | Freshman • Libero/Defensive Specialist • Istanbul, Türkiye
  • 8038Cal Poly libero Elif Hurriyet helped the Mustangs to a weekend split to claim a first career nod as Big West Defensive Player of the Week. 

  • Hurriyet, who hails from Istanbul, Türkiye, anchored the defense that help UC San Diego and Long Beach State to a combined .165 hitting percentage.  

  • For the week, Hurriyet tallied 41 total digs in nine frames, or 4.56 per set.  

  • In Thursday’s five-set victory at LBSU, Hurriyet collected a career-best 28 digs to go along with three service aces and three assists to highlight the week.

Setter of the Week 
Kate Lang, Hawai'i | Senior • Setter • Keller, Texas
  • 8036Hawai’i setter Kate Lang directed the Rainbow Wahine to wins at Cal State Bakersfield and against CSUN to earn Big West Setter of the Week for the third time of the 2024 campaign. The senior has now earned 14 career weekly setter honors. 

  • Lang dished out 96 assists while posting double-doubles in both victories. In the 3-1 road win against the Roadrunners, Lang compiled 52 assists with 12 digs while operating a UH attack that hit a collective .317 on Tuesday.  

  • The Keller, Texas, native, capped the week with 44 assists and 17 digs in a five-set home victory against the Matadors, bringing the weekly averages to 10.67 assists and 3.22 digs.  

  • For the season, Lang’s 10.17 assists per set rates second in The Big West and 39th nationally.

Freshman of the Week 
Eva Travis, UC Santa Barbara | Redshirt Freshman • Outside Hitter • Aliso Viejo, Calif.
  • 8134First-year Gaucho Eva Travis helped UC Santa Barbara to a pair of wins to earn Big West Freshman of the Week for Oct. 28. This is a second such weekly honor for the product of Aliso Viejo, Calif., who also picked up the award on Sept. 23. 

  • The outside hitter compiled 38 total kills in nine sets, or 4.22 per set, to go along with 1.56 digs per set and six total blocks in wins at UC San Diego at against Long Beach State. 

  • In the 3-1 win against the Tritons, Travis closed the match with 22 kills on .372 hitting. The redshirt freshman also denied four attacks for UCSD and recorded one solo stuff. 

  • Travis bumped the season average to 3.13 kills per set, good for ninth in The Big West.
