Utterback and Starr of UC Davis Joined by Long Beach State's Bacon and Maxwell for Big West Women's Volleyball Weekly Awards

Offensive Player of the Week 
Olivia Utterback, UC Davis | Senior • Opposite Hitter • Plainfield, Calif.
  • UC Davis' Olivia Utterback paced the Aggies to an historic weekend to earn Big West Offensive Player of the Week. This marks a second career nod, with the previous award coming on Nov. 21, 2022.  

  • In Tuesday's tidy sweep against UC Riverside, Utterback pounded nine kills on .304 hitting with five digs and a block. 

  • Then in Friday's 3-1 victory at Hawai'i, the opposite hitter from Plainfield, Calif., closed with 21 kills on .318 hitting with four blocks and a pair of aces. The UC Davis victory was the program's first ever win at Hawai'i in program history, snapping an 18-match streak. 

  • For the week, Utterback averaged 4.29 kills and 4.93 points per set. The senior upped the season averages to 3.58 kills and 4.21 per set, both good for second in The Big West.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Kameron Bacon, Long Beach State | Senior • Middle Blocker • Fontana, Calif.
  • Kameron Bacon led Long Beach State to a pair of road wins to claim the season's second Big West Defensive Player of the Week award, and a fourth career honor.  

  • The senior middle blocker averaged 2.00 blocks per set while limiting opponents to a .087 attack percentage in wins against CSUN and Cal State Bakersfield. Bacon contributed offensively as well, averaging 1.71 kills per set on a .476 hitting percentage.  

  • In a sweep of the Matadors, Bacon posted six total blocks, one unassisted, and registered six kills while hitting .625 (6-1-8) in the match.  

  • The product of Fontana, Calif., went on to post eight blocks and six kills on .385 hitting against the Highlanders as the Beach stayed in a three-way tie at the top of The Big West standings. 

  • Bacon is currently leading the league in blocks per set this season, denying 1.21 attempts a frame.

Setter of the Week 
Mia Starr, UC Davis | Sophomore • Setter • Portland, Ore.
  • 22608UC Davis sophomore Mia Starr helped direct the Aggies to a banner week en route to Big West Setter of the Week for the first time.  

  • Starr racked up 212 assists, averaging an eye-popping 12.14 assists per set, in wins against UC Riverside and Hawai'i. 

  •  In Tuesday's home sweep of the Highlanders, Starr closed with 27 assists, seven digs and three service aces. 

  • In the Aggies' first win at Hawai'i in program history, Starr finished with a career-best 58 assists and added seven digs to help UC Davis knock off the Rainbow Wahine for the first time on the island in 18 matchups.

Freshman of the Week 
Madi Maxwell, Long Beach State | Freshman • Opposite Hitter • Newhall, Calif.
  • 8042Long Beach State first-year player Madi Maxwell turned in an excellent showing in a pair of road victories to pick up a first career nod as Big West Freshman of the Week. 

  • The opposite hitter averaged 3.00 kills per set while hitting .333 to go along with 2.57 digs per set and five aces in LBSU wins at CSUN and Cal State Bakersfield.  

  • Maxwell started the week with nine kills, seven digs, and one assist against the Matadors on Thursday.  

  • In Saturday's matchup against the Roadrunners, the Newhall, Calif., native posted a first-career double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs, while hitting .417 in the match (12-2-24). Maxwell also served up a career-high five aces, while chipping in four assists.
