Godbold, Bouchkov of Long Beach State and CSUN's Phillips Claim Men's Volleyball Weekly Awards

 
Offensive Player of the Week 
Clarke Godbold, Long Beach State | Senior • Outside Hitter • San Pedro, Calif.
  • 8042Clarke Godbold led No. 2 Long Beach State to a pair of four-set victories at the NJIT Tournament last week to claim Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors. This marks a third career weekly offensive award and seventh overall.  

  • The senior outside hitter averaged 4.88 kills per set on a .522 attack percentage (39-3-69), while also adding 1.25 blocks per set, and 0.38 digs per set. Godbold started the week knocking down 18 kills on a .567 clip (18-1-30), to go along with four blocks and two digs in a 3-1 win over No. 17 George Mason.  

  • The product of San Pedro, Calif., followed that performance with a season-high 21 kills on a .487 attack percentage (21-2-39), while adding six blocks, and one dig in a 3-1 win at NJIT. 

  • Godbold currently rates first in The Big West and seventh nationally in hitting percentage at 0.466 on the season. Godbold’s 4.93 points per set is also good for seventh in NCAA Division I-II and second in the league.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Lazar Bouchkov, Long Beach State | Freshman • Middle Blocker • Sofia, Bulgaria 
  • Freshman Lazar Bouchkov was dominant at the net last week for No. 2 Long Beach State to claim a first-career weekly honor as Big West Defensive Player of the Week.  

  • Bouchkov averaged 1.55 blocks per set, while also adding 1.64 kills per set while hitting .571 (18-2-28) in a pair of victories.  

  • The middle blocker started the week with seven kills on a .667 attack percentage (7-1-9), while adding one block and one dig in the sweep at Merrimack on Wednesday.  

  • Friday, Bouchkov compiled five blocks, five kills and a .556 hitting percentage (5-0-9) in a four-set win against No. 17 George Mason.  

  • The native of Sofia, Bulgaria, finished the week with a career-high 11-block performance to go along with six kills on .500 hitting (6-1-10) to lead the Beach to a 3-1 win at NJIT.   

  • Bouchkov’s 1.444 blocks per set leads The Big West and rates fourth in NCAA Division I-II.

Freshman of the Week 
Jalen Phillips | Redshirt Freshman • Opposite Hitter • Anaheim, Calif.
  • 30415CSUN redshirt freshman Jalen Phillips picked up a first career Big West Freshman of the Week award after helping the Matadors to a split on the week. 

  • Playing in seven of CSUN's eight sets, Phillips put down 26 kills on 41 swings with just five errors to hit .512 as CSUN.  

  • Phillips hit .625 in two sets against Cal Lutheran before posting a career-high 21 kills on .485 hitting against No. 16 Princeton. The opposite hitter also had six aces in the two matches, including a career-best five against Princeton. Phillips also added five digs and three blocks in the five-set loss against the Tigers. 

  • Phillips is fourth in The Big West in hitting percentage at .380, which ranks 20th nationally.
