UC Irvine's Castagna, CSUN's Mauldin and LBSU's Uchida Earn Women's Soccer Weekly Awards

 
Offensive Player of the Week 
Emilie Castagna, UC irvine | Sophomore • Forward • Bournemouth, England
  • 8136UC Irvine sophomore forward Emilie Castagna earns Offensive Player of the Week honors after tallying one goal and one assist in 42 minutes of play in a 2-2 home draw against UC Santa Barbara on Thursday. 

  • The Bournemouth, England native scored the opening goal for the Anteaters by tapping in a ball that was mishandled by the Gaucho goalkeeper.

  • The sophomore set up UCI's second goal to go up 2-0 with an assist from the touchline. 
  • Castagna is currently second on the Anteaters and tied for eighth in The Big West in points with eight (three goals, two assists). UC Irvine is 3-4-3 overall and 0-0-2 in Big West play.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Hayden Mauldin, CSUN | Sophomore • Goalkeeper • Bakersfield, Calif. 
  • 22607CSUN sophomore goalkeeper Hayden Mauldin helped the Matadors earn two points by compiling 14 saves in two games to win the Defensive Player of the Week accolade. 

  • The Bakersfield, Calif. product logged a shutout in Thursday's 0-0 home draw against UC Davis with seven saves. It was the second shutout of the season for Mauldin. 

  • The junior goaltender recorded seven more saves in Sunday's 1-1 tie on the road at Cal State Fullerton. 

  • With the 14 saves, Maudlin currently leads the conference in total saves with 65 and moves into ninth place in the CSUN record books in career saves with 120.

Freshman of the Week 
Kana Uchida, Long Beach State | Freshman • Defender • Uruyasu City, Japan
  • 22178Long Beach State freshman defender Kana Uchida claims the Freshman of the Week award after getting two assists in the Beach's 4-1 home win against UC Santa Barbara on Sunday. 

  • Both of Uchida's assists came in the second half, the first in the 54th minute and the second in the 78th minute to secure a 4-0 cushion for the Beach.    

  • The freshman had been subbed off when Long Beach State surrendered a goal to UC Santa Barbara, playing 85 minutes of shutout defense. 

  • Long Beach State is 6-3-2 overall and currently tied for second in The Big West standings with a 1-0-1 conference record.
