Hawai’i senior Amber Igiede was dominant in a pair of sweeps for the Rainbow Wahine to claim Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors. This is Igiede’s third such award of the season, and a sixth career weekly offensive nod.

In Friday’s match against Cal State Bakersfield, Igiede put down a match-high 12 kills with just one error in 25 attacks to hit .440. In the first set, Igiede pounded seven kills as UH raced to the 25-8 decision in the frame. The middle blocker also posted five total blocks, two solo, with five digs and an assist.

Igiede pounded a match-high 13 kills against CSUN, committing zero errors on 18 swings for a season-high .722 hitting percentage. The Baton Rouge, La., native added three digs, a block and an assist in UH's shortest match of the season which clocked in at 79 minutes.

Igiede moved up in the UH record books to No. 17 in career kills with 1,120. Tallying 460 career blocks, Igiede is 10th in NCAA Division I in total blocks and blocks per set (1.26).

UC Davis libero Julia Ng posted a pair of 20+ dig performances to lead the Aggies to a perfect 2-0 start in the opening weekend of conference play and scoop up a career-first Big West Defensive Player of the Week award.

Ng snuffed out 23 digs to go along with three assists and two aces in Friday’s reverse sweep at Cal State Fullerton

On Saturday, the junior from Foothill Ranch, Calif., notched a season-high 24 digs in the five-set win at UC Irvine.

Ng averaged 4.70 digs per set on the weekend, 1.4 per set over her season average.

For the fifth consecutive week in the 2023 season, Kate Lang collected Big West Setter of the Week after helping Hawai’i to a pair of convincing sweeps to open conference action. helped lead UH to a pair of convincing sweeps, dishing out 51 assists, averaging 8.50 assists/set with 11 digs, a service ace and a kill.

With a solid lead in both matches, Lang shared time with freshman Jackie Matias. Together they helped UH to hit .323 (41-9-99) against Cal State Bakersfield with a season-low nine errors. Against CSUN, the squad finished hitting a season-high .402.

Against Cal State Bakersfield, Lang dished out a match-high 29 assists for a .426 assist percentage against the `Runners, also adding six digs and a block to the tally.

In UH's sweep over CSUN, the junior from Keller, Texas, closed with 22 assists and a .512 assist percentage to go along with five digs and a kill.

Lang currently leads The Big West and is 20th nationally in assists per set, at 10.67.

Freshman of the Week

Ally Chandler was excellent at the middle blocker position in UC Davis' perfect 2-0 weekend to start Big West play, resulting in Freshman of the Week acclaim.

Chandler opened the weekend with five kills and eight total blocks, including four solo stuffs, in a reverse sweep at Cal State Fullerton.

On Saturday, Chandler came up with an astounding 11 block assists in the five-set win at UC Irvine to go along with six kills on .357 hitting. The double-digit block tally was a career first and currently stands as The Big West season high for blocks in a match.

The Loomis, Calif., native posted averages of 1.10 kills and 1.90 blocks per set in the two-match road swing.
